This article from Wired is really funny and pokes fun at all the drama that has unfolded on various forums over D&D 4E in the last year.

What made me laugh most was one of the comments below:

"I'm tempted to email this to my ma, but she doesn't check her email. This sort of analogy clearly defines the d&d geek in a way that your average-joe-soap-layperson-on-the-street can understand!"

I like how everyone outside the rpg hobby thinks we're all the same. lol Or, better yet, that they don't bitch in the very same way about their subject of choice.

Naturally, this analogy pissed me off, especially presented as a metaphor for a grognard's supposedly "unreasonable" opinion.

My ice cream analogy is better. It's really vanilla, but they insist on calling it chocolate.

It is true that this parody could represent the message forums of just about any fan base. Gamers are just an easy target.

It is a pretty close approximation to a lot of 4E posts I've seen in the last few months though

I kind of like the idea of being a hippy artist pretentious freeform Castle Keeper. Do I need to grow a goatee and wear a beret to live up to the title?

I hope not, because the first is beyond me! Well, I suppose with the right steroids I might, but I'd really rather not... The beret sounds sweet, though! A black beret with the TLG logo embroidered on it. Yeah...

Yes, a TLG or C&C logo would be good for my next gig. Not so many years ago, it was a Che Guevara pin!
