A Long Note on Brevity - in Crusader #7

Post by Greg Ellis »

I'm a bit behind on my reading, so forgive me the fact that this refers to a fall 2007 issue.

Steve, you nailed it in your article on "Brevity".

So many times we've sat through module intros that are so painfully long and flowery, falling asleep as the GM's voice drones on and on, growing horse as we drift off into slumber. When he finally reaches the "so, what do you do?" part, we've completely lost track of the basics like "where are we?" and "what's the problem?".

Bravo for putting the topic out there, and building a whole game company around the idea. Even if it you did go on a bit long about it...

I find myself saying that when I read just about anything Steve rights regarding gaming ideas and approach. One of these days I need to make it to a TrollCon and sit in on one of his games.

Thanks guys. I really enjoyed writing that piece. It was inspired at GTS in Vegas after I listened to one too many publishers remark on how scatter brained kids today are. I kept having visions of moms and dads in the 1950s, shaking their gnarled, tired fists at the TV where elvis was grinding away...fandangled kids and their fandangled objects!
