Wedding Pains - Or, Avoid Sealing Wax
Wedding Pains - Or, Avoid Sealing Wax
Well, so, we've decided we'd like to be a little retro in our invitations and do something a tad medieval and seal them up with wax before sending them off to recipients. OK, no big deal, until you get that stuff drizzling all down your fingers and thighs because, let me tell you, once it touches flesh, it burns... no, burn is too delicate -- it eats like acid -- and you're flinging the thing just to get it away from you and it flies all over and gets you more... and you're left with 2nd degree burns in 15 places.... yeah. Ouch. Anyway, I've got these lovely burn blisters all over now, and I've got more to do! Yay!
Maybe it's just me, and my inability to do anything with careful attention.

Sorry to hear about your injuries serleran, hope they are not anything that will prevent you from consummating your vows.

There is still time to elope my friend.
Save the money for the honeymoon or a down-payment on a place of your own.
Elope.
Sieg would probably agree with this--at our wedding, by the time it was all over I thought he was going to lunge for the photographer's throat! He was so fed up with all the posing and smiling before during and after the ceremony, and we literally fled the church.
Not meaning to attack you with a helpful suggestion, but maybe a cheap pair of fabric gardening gloves would help protect your hands whilst playing with the searing hot wax. Or invite a bunch of friends over and tell them it's an invitation-sealing party where everyone can get involved! Hey, it's worth a try...

Friends... hmm. Nope, I can't say I have those. At least, none that live close enough to be able to help. Though, I do appreciate the attack... heh.
Oh, and about eloping: considered it - but it is now too late. Have already arranged for location and so forth, and I'd rather use it than lose the money by backing out.

Sorry to hear about your burns, but if it's not too late you can look into this stuff:
http://www.cannizzaroseal.com/
I bought my personal seal from these folks years ago and they did a great job. The sealing wax they sell also has wicks so you light, turn flame towards page and let drip. It's cheating but it's high quality sealing wax without the burns (because, yes, that stuff will take your darn skin right off).
If you're interested I can take a picture of the a seal made from their sealing wax and shoot it too you.

My family actually had a long history of elopements. My mother and father were the first on either side of my family to not elope for something crazy like 4 generations. My mom's parents were married for 2 years before anyone knew. (He was 25, she was 16 when they eloped. She lived at home until 18 then "Hey Mom & Dad? Guess what!" )
I was actually the one who pushed a little for a "Wedding" moreso than my sainted wife ("sainted" = let me go stag to LGGC and watched our 2yo & 5yo girls). She wasn't against the idea, and she knew her mom woulda blown a gasket if we'd eloped. But my motive was simple: After 20 years or so (we've been married 12 now), I did NOT want to hear "Sigh. I never got to have a real wedding. I know! Let's renew our vows! Blah blah blah." This way, her folks paid for it, not me.

My small homage to E.G.G.
My wife and I wished we had eloped after it was all said and done.
Just remember folks.....the wedding is for the family and the guests, not the bride and groom. I found this out the hard way.
