My PC's are attacking human NPC's with class levels. How would you calculate XP awards?
If it helps, here's a sketch of the 2 NPC's:
human F2 S17 D16 Co17 I12 W10 Ch12
Equipment: broadward, full chain mail suit, lg steel shield
human Cl2 S13 D9 Co12 I10 W17 Ch15
Equipment: scythe, steel breastplate
no magical items.
Thanks for the assist.

I agree, this is exactly how I've done it in my games, with the exception I've added a "kicker" to bonus XP for NPC types. IMO a 1st level fighter NPC going up against a 1st level PC is a tough fight, and one that would merit more then baseline monster HD XP. I've just been Ad Hoc-ing this type of XP, but so far it's been about and additional 15% more then straight monster HD.

Welcome to the Crusade and good luck with the game!

Spellcasters are going to be worth a fortune of xp's.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
