Yggsburgh in Airdhe. Not another placement question.

Post by Julian Grimm »

What I am wondering is how to fit Yggsburgh's history within the frame of the Winter Dark. Would it have remained free? Sided with the empire? Been a center of resistance? Any ideas or thoughts beyond that?

I would imagine it would have had elements of all of that, but the rulers would remain, officially, neutral with covert scenes happening in the alleys and ports, smuggling, assassinations, exiles, fights, coups, and so forth and so on as one rats another who rats another to the wrong person... think of it like a giant gang war, but the common citizen is unaware of it.

Good topic. Along the lines of what serleran has mentioned, I would think Yggsburgh stayed neutral during the WD wars and perhaps paid tribute to Unklar. Yggsburgh would have done what Acalon and Heimstadt and the other cities in New Aenoch did ~ continue to trade and conduct business as much as possible.

And, perhaps Unklar left those cities alone as they sat in his backyard, so to speak New Aenoch being just south of Aufstrag.

Yes, there was probably underground resistance and many knights who would have fought against the forces of evil. Others would have laid low and stuck to their castles and lands waiting for their opportunity which did come when the many cities rallied and threw their support behind Pryzmira.

Yggsburg in Aihrde

Post by cedasutta »

Yggsburg in my (just started) campaign has no history during the Age of Winter Dark. This is because I've fast forwarded the time line. The campaign starts in 1347 md. By my reckoning (using the Codex Erde's date of 1036 as the end of the Winter Dark wars, wherein it is also inconsistently listed as 1136 in the timeline (as in the updated C&C Aihrde)), this is 311 years later. Since Yggsburg was a small town 300 years ago, this fits with the birth of the Young Kingdoms circa 1036-1097. Yggsburg did not become a force on the map until 100 years ago when it became a fortified city.

The campaign starts on the 1st day of the Festival of the Unmaking. And to generation of the characters, this is just another day. After all, the Festival is just a "holiday" celebrating "history". Well, we'll see about that.

As to placement (even though this is not a placement thread), I've located Yggsburg to the East of Dunfalcon, which in turn is a city near the coast and to the East of Ascalon.

I wish we could see a copy of Peter Bradley's maps that comprise the background of the Yggsburg cover and of several of the A-series modules. I'm trying my best to make sense of what little can be discovered by studying the covers of these products.

Howdy and welcome. I like your timeline idea above.

As to the map, that's the old Clayton Bunce Outremere map. PM me with your email address and I can send it to you.

I was thinking of fast forwarding my Timeline a bit as well. Basically wanting to make things more unsure in the history.
