Pissed at the Postal Service (again)
Not long ago, when the preview for Creatures Feature was posted by Turanil, I had commented on some of the clipart used and asked where he got it from. He provided the title and I was able to track it down online very inexpensively. It came in the mail today in a large padded envelope.
Unfortunately, the dumb ass of a postal carrier must have though he could shove it in my mailbox by folding it in half. The CD didn't survive. What makes matters worse is that the postal carrier must have suddenly realized that something went wrong and stopped trying to get it in the mailbox. Instead he left it in the lobby where the various mailboxes reside (I live in an apartment building) amongst some junk mail.
Needless to say, I'm VERY pissed and have been since I got home 4 hours ago. I have already lodged another complaint with Canada Post with the last complaint I made regarding this same issue! I also let the seller know (I used the Amazon marketplace for this) what has happened in order to do proper follow ups and hopefully get compensated for this (one way or the other).

I say urinate in a letter and put it in your postal box. Address it to the local carrier. But make it a complimentary message!

Sorry to hear about this moriarty.
I am sorry to see that stupidity is not just limited to the U.S. Postal Service. I have had a like experience with my letter carrier as well. It is a shame that we can't hold them directly accountable.

Sorry to hear about your postal woes.
I'm always worried when it comes to the postal service - I've had too many packages lost and damaged not to e concerned. Hopefully you get compensated properly for your inconvenience!

Don't give anyone an IQ test for these people! I'm sorry, but it just seems to happen way too often to be a coincidence. Too many of these carriers have the mentality of "make it fit!!". A couple seconds of common sense would go a long way.

the postal carrier could shove it
I've often wanted to say that. (Slight edit to original post.)
I think that the fundamental problem is the quantity of junk mail, so in general a given piece of mail tends not to seem so significant. If the junk mail and random mailer flyers were all to go away then everything left over would have some value and perhaps more care would be taken. I get stuff all the time that says "do not bend" and it's bent right in the middle to fit in my mailbox. Heck, every issue of Crusader that I own has a faint bend in it, thanks to my mail carrier.
If I was king for a day, one of the first things I would do is to get rid of discounts for volume shipping. That seems so backwards. (Oh, and I'd charge 0.1 cents per e-mail just to nail the SPAM guys who send them out by the millions. If they really want to pay $1000 per million e-mails, go ahead. Maybe they can feed the poor. I figure at that cost I'd pay less than a couple bucks per year, so it's worth it to clean up SPAM.)

Not really happy with the US post either right now. Got my second PHB copy yesterday and the corners were all dinged up and bent. (trying to round off the square edges I guess) Book is still useable and all that...just annoying as all hades.

Yeah. I can totally relate to slightly-dinged edges on C&C hardcovers in the mail. Also, the occasionally bent up ends on the mod's. I don't get Crusader in the mail, so I can't speak to that. I typically buy those at cons, or game stores. Another rpg distributor, Studio2 games (in Tennessee) usually sends items in cardboard boxes. Tends to cut down on the dings, etc.

I got another package in the mail, or should I say, I found another package left in the lobby for me today. At this point I should count myself lucky with 'finding' and picking these up before anyone else does!
I've filed a complaint but it'll take a couple of days before I get some sort of response. I'm thinking of filing another one for this evening's incident.
I may actually see about having certain pieces of my mail forwarded at the postoffice and renting a mailbox there. That way I'll have someone to yell at if there's other additional problems.

Yeah...but then it opens you up for a lawsuit (at least in the states it would...as well as federal charges) related to biological hazards and health endangerment, etc.

In this day in age, doing anything to the US Post Office is um, not a good idea. Funny and righteous as it may be, no good will come from it.

Can't blame the postal service on that one. have to blame the packer. packed right, a book can take a 10G shock once or twice and not be phased.
Same is true on the CD's. shipping cases for CD's and Dvd's are easily available for less than 50 cents per @ 100, that are virtually indestructable, and you certainly couldn't fold the CD in the plastic case.
Plus, they should be labled "Fragile" or "Handle with Care". That puts the mojo on the postal service.
Finally, at least here in the U.S. there is postal insurance. It's always a good choice, especially with original artworks, rare CD's and books.
And yes, my gaming collection is also insured, for a very good reason! It's getting more difficult to find out-of-print books and CD's. Even the C&C is insured Woot!

The problem with our postal service here is that they bend stuff (to fit it in the mail box) that is clearly marked as "Do Not Bend".

Or literally throw boxes across the room that are marked fragile. (I have a couple friends that work in the USPS and UPS)
I agree, packing does make a difference...but when packing isn't the issue, which it really wasn't in this case...

I think they must have heard of your reputation. I never have any issues getting stuff from you. In fact, your packages have always arrived ealier then I expect. I did receive the latest package from you last Friday actually with everything in perfect order (as usual). With the crazy weekend I've had and the problems with Canada Post this week, I completely forget to let you know that I got the package. Many thanks.
However, if you want to kick some Canadian Postal Service ass, I'll be more than happy to help sponsor your trip. As for the moose, I'm sure we can get some moose and even a few beavers to help you in your quest.
Hmm... the idea of crazed beavers gives me a GREAT adventure idea!
