Does C&C Need Another Monster Book?

Post by serleran »

Poll pretty much explains itself...

Trying to convince Steve that M&T II needs to be printed immediately. ;)

And, by "new" I mean -- ones you've not seen a C&C version of. It could be a conversion, or it could be something wholly new. The point is -- another monster book.

I would like to see either M&T 2 or M&T of Aihrde in print soon.

It can wait until just after the CKG though.

I'm torn on critter books. Most of them don't hit the mark for me personally.

I'd like to see another critter book but I'd want to see more critter fluff added to it. I loved the 2nd Edition Monster Manual. Heck, even the Creature Catalog of D&D was good too. Something more than just stat blocks and a short critter blurb. Something that makes me want to actually read the book instead of picking a stat block to use here and there.

You need to add another option to the poll:
I hate Serleran and want massive delays in M&T II's release so that he will suffer like he deserves.

I selected the second option:

"Yes... but I can wait" only because I want the CKG first!

Once that baby is off to the printers, I say feel free to start cracking the whip!

It's been so long since we've had a "core" C&C book that I've been making my own monsters anyways but yeah we could use another one!

In my poll I said 2nd right after CKG, just ahead of C&C Basic.....

More M&T stuff is what I want.... have no problem just grabbing and transposing stuff from other systems myself, but having a 2nd M&T tome would be terrific.

I'd definitely like to see this come to print, but after the Trolls clear the docket on some of the other stuff that's being worked on and finished.

I think Rhu's point is well taken -- we bitch and complain sometimes about the backup in product, it does seem a bit iffy to start pressing priorities on something else.

I do think the M&T and an M&T of Aihrde are both expceptionally good needs, but I'd clear at least the following from the docket:

(NOT counting GenCon releases here - naturally getting those items out take precedence over everything else)

CKG (Just becauses, as many have said, getting it done would be a moral victory)

At least 3-4 of the A series mods

More Casey Haunted Highlands (can't believe I didn't have that on my poll!!)

C&C Basic

CZ: Dungeons (Don't let it wait, keep the Castle high Priority) + as many more of the Yggsburgh expansions as possible

At least one of the non-RPG board games (aka Whamgammon, Melee, Cleaverthepit)
Then, once those goals are achieved:

Victorious

M&T II

M&T of Aihrde

An Inzae folio

A big honkin' dual-poster map of the Cradle of the World to supplement the AWD folio (hey - I think the folio is just fine as is for now - no need to rush too much detail overall)

Finish A series

More mods period - C series (Darkenfold rocks), etc.

StarSiege Materials (Adventures, Setting stuff)

Finish off non-RPG games selection

** I'm not including GFW stuff yet because its probably too in flux -- but the sense is a C&C version of Canting Crew, Essential Places are both highly desired, and with LP really set back, perhaps a more encompassing tome down the road, something like:

Gods and Legends - Presenting several pantheons, including C&C, Tenoric, Aihrdian, etc, classical mythos,

Heh, lots and lots still on the plate - rock on through guys!

No need to get upset. I was teasing Serleran based on something he posted in the What Current Project on the Anvil Do You Want Next thread:

Yeah, I was going to point out this was just a tease here. Everyone loves Serl despite his fur covered looks!

(I hope the future missus has made him shave by now!)

Edit: To be clear my teasing is from a pic Serl shared over on the NEcromancer boards two or so years ago. He had one HUGE face covering beard!

I picked the "Yeah, but..." option.

I have M&T for official C&C Monsters. I can always get more monsters out of my BD&D and AD&D books.

I'd like an official CKG first. Heck, I'd like an official Gods and Demons, too. I know I can pull those from various other, non-official, sources as well but it would be nice to have that that stuff (officially) before another monster book. Not that another monster book wouldn't be nice and all.

I'm with the "Yes, but not immediately" crowd for much the same reasons sited by Dynel. Its a happy happy joy joy moment to get the new monster stuff but right now I'm working with whats been printed before.

The only reason I am not "in a hurry" for another monster book is because I have my AD&D books to fall back on.

Of the monster books though, I am looking forward to the Devil and Demons one. For some reason, those arch-demons and devils embody all of "the game" right in them and all my nostalgic memories as well.

Exactly how I feel, on both accounts.

I'll take any C&C release I can get! But I agree with Jungger. I remember cracking open the 1e MM for the very first time and was blown away from the devil and demon descriptions. Tiamat, too. I would love to experience that again.

My friend and I were discussing this thread yesterday evening. Like some have said, there are the AD&D books to fall back on. And, (with some other companies) there is a tendency to put out too many monster books, sometimes with mixed results. Sometimes you get a lot of beasts, etc. that you'd never use. That said, I think C&C could use at least one more monster volume. Three or four "might" be pushing it, but at least two. I voted in favor.

No. She does not make me do anything I would not otherwise want to do; in fact, she encourages me to do what I wish, as long as it does not harm her or our relationship... so, its been chopped, and grown back. Mostly.

Anyway, glad to see the majority of people who've voted have at least expressed an interest... obviously there are other high priority projects, but the real test was to see if M&T II could be considered one.

The good thing about the M&T 2 is that it doesn't need that much more work from those of us working on the CKG. It is up for art for the monsters and some more magic items. So it might happen about the same time the CKG comes out.

But as I said last week, its all batteries directed toward CKG!

Uh oh. I figure it will take the rabble all of about 10 seconds after the end of GenCon to start bitching about the unconscionable delays in release of CZ3: The Dungeons. Now you're devoting everything to the CKG instead? The natives will be growing restless... (Of course, if you make CZ3 the overriding priority, you'll be raked over the coals about the CKG. Sometimes you just can't win.)

Hahaha Your right there! But the CKG is much advanced and won't take long once these other projects get wrapped (which they are going to be by Gencon). But the CKG will become TOP priority after Gencon.
