Serleran's Megadungeon -- The First Level

Post by serleran »

Ok, a bit of a lie, with me saying I would not post anything here in this section, for you guys to critique, but, I'm wondering how my dungeon creator works, so I gave it a go... and now, I would like to hear what others think. There are several problems with these images, because, well, they're supposed to link up which is why they have names like NOC, meaning (N side, O side, and C side) corresponding to the same letter of a different map. They are all part of the same dungeon level, though they lead to various other levels. Anyway... there are 12 of them, so if you're on a slow connection: avoid!

One other thing -- these were hand-drawn and scanned, modified a little in MS-Paint because I was sick of Photoshop.

Thanks for looking.

That looks like a dousy on a dungeon. Any chance you will run it a Troll Con or LGGC next year? I like the black background, but I bet it uses a buch of ink to print. Overall I think it is a good map, I could run a game with it no problem, and thats the biggest factor for me when I use a map.

Yeesh it's huge.
Looks good. Are you just messing around with it or do you have plans for it in some capacity?

As to the odds of me running the dungeon at a con... I dunno. I'd have to bring it, and want to be a DM. Can't really answer that. It is masive though, and nearly detailed out (things on the maps liek C, T, M, R and S mean = Chamber, Trap, Monster, Room, Secret Door) and most have correpsonding numbers.

I've not printed it out (I have the hand-drawn originals, so I don't need to print it) but I bet it does take a lot of ink. Don't know what I can do to fix that.

And, to the "is it for anything?" Well, I dunno. I've toyed with the idea of a massive dungeon box set, but I'm not sure TLG is interested in anything like that. Small modules seem to be the preference, because big huge things require a lot more "work" and are more expensive to produce. Also, I hear most roleplayers aren't looking for campaigns, which something of this magnitude is.

Very nice, Serl, that is one big dungeon level. I'd love to see it put together all laid out.

Damn huge, but nice. My gaming group would get lost in there never to see the light of day again!

Yeah, there are still some adventurers running around in it actually. Three parties have entered, none have left. Lots of nifty monsters in there, though... and some very naughty traps.

Thanks, all, for looking.

If you want to send them to me my wife can get rid of a lot of the excessive ink for printing purposes.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Holy schnikees, that's a big dungeon! Nice work!

I read that you're sick of Photoshop. Have you considered trying "The Gimp"? It's an open source image editor/manipulator that I've been exceedingly impressed with.

Oh, thanks for the reminder, Ink. I'd forgotten about this program after blowing away my Red Hat partition back when they dropped single user support. It's a great program. I haven't looked at the animation add-in yet, but I'll check it out tonight.
