Hey folks,
I have been playing C&C with some Taiwanese boys for several months. We play around 30 minutes at the end of a tutoring session; I do the same with a girl, but we play Faery's Tale. The kids love playing so it makes class much more interesting, and role playing is very good for linguistic development.
Initially we played a two fighter set up with a cleric npc. It was a standard hack and slash type deal but very fun. After they got to level three I started a new campaign where the kids rolled up thieves. Two street urchins recruited to a thieves guild. It has been very fun although it took a few weeks for one of the boys to realize you can't play thieves the same way as fighters. If you attack police- they will get help!
One of the boys loved playing so much he went and bought the Chinese 3.5 phb and is Dmging for his brother, lol. I'm kind of curious as to what he does to his brother. I think it is great!
My original idea was to slowly introduce more and more elements of classic fantasy to them, and things are moving smoothly. We are reading the red box books slowly (but it aint C&C). It is interesting the there is already a power player emerging and the other is enjoying the more subtle aspects of the game (the DM). The power player wants to continue with the fighters while the DM kid wants to play the thieves (while also curious about mages). The next campaign will be mage school (ala Harry Potter).
I would love to just use C&C basic with the kids- go go Basic C&C! Can't wait for it to become available (Raised hand for Alpha/Beta testing).

That's excellent, sir! Thanks for letting us know how it's going!

As always... the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.

Update Update!
Well the rogue campaign was not the most successful to date. There was a problem when one of the kids gets bored with the sneakiness and just wanted to bash heads. Plus, having two PCs with the same skill set w/o the experience to differentiate between the two characters through roleplay was also a bit of a bore. So, I have moved the boys on to phase three of my rpg curriculum- magic users!
One boy is a first level wizard, one is a first level cleric. I helped them roll up the characters and I have to say, they both rolled very well. After a bit of explanation I helped them select spells. A concise list of spells though a link on Omote's page really, really helped. Painless even; they pretty much were able to immediately see the spells that interested them. Luckily for me, one them selected detect poison. hehe
The PCs are first year students at the Black Heart Magic Academy, Winston Curr Headmaster. Black heart in Chinese means dirty business, kinda like the tainted milk powder from China. The students were celebrating passing their midterms exams in the first semester of their first year. The headmaster informed them that only 5 of the 100 first year wizards and 4 of the first year clerics died so far this semester. Which is much better than the 15 who died before midterms the prior year.
The students who passed away expired either from the dogs guarding the school grounds, or the "practice" dungeons below.
To celebrate, the headmaster was going to treat them to some delicious cake. This is where the detect poison really helped me out. When the cleric PC cast the spell, all of the cakes glowed a rainbow of colors to him. My kids didn't eat the cake, but all the other first years did and boy was it fun to come up with all the hyjinx that followed. Needless to say, the 5th grade players were thrilled.
I can't wait to see how this ad hoc campaign at the evil hogwarts goes.
