AXIS & ALLIES 50th Anniversay Edition (bigger is better!

Post by Omote »

At GenCon I saw the designer, Larry Harris selling this - it has a huge map (2' x 4') and makes Italy an player axis power.
From Boardgame Geek

To celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Avalon Hill, Axis & Allies is launching its most expansive game ever. The Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition will feature the debut of Italy as the third Axis nation, the introduction of the cruiser unit to the naval lineup, and the largest Axis & Allies board to-date measuring 24x46 inches. With over 600 pieces, players will be able to recreate and decide the outcome of WWII like never before. The Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition is designed and developed by Larry Harris, the original designer of Axis & Allies, and will release on October 23, 2008.

In our gaming group, we were always big boardgame players, and in particular A&A and the rest of the MB GameMaster Series. This version of A&A looks just amazing and I can't wait to play.

I liked the original version, but slowly became more and more bored with it, through lack of real options and pretty standard tactics / strategy. So, I just stopped playing. Maybe this will be more fun. Haven't looked at any of the expansions since I no longer own the main game.

If those pieces are plastic, and not paper tokens, I'll buy.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

All versions of Axis & Allies are platic pieces, all 600+ pieces will be plastic. Belee dat!

The best new thing about this version is that there is now 3 axis players (Gemany, Japan and Italy). That makes 6 players that can play (along with the allied players, USA, Russia and England).

There are expansions I bought that were card board tokens. All I can tell you is they had the name "Axis and Allies" on them, not sure of the company. I'd have to rediscover their location to tell ya.

This game looks awesome. I would love to buy it, but alas . . TLG will be taking all my money this year. I still have to buy Towers of Adventure, StarSiege, Engineering Dungeons, etc. and anything else that gets released this year!

If I don't squeeze in this purchase for myself, it will be making the X-Mas list. I still have a lot of love for the MB version and ever since I've heard of this one I've been planning to get it.

Ah yes, there are numerous companies that make unofficial expansions for A&A.

Saw the box, board, pieces, rulebook, etc. right in front of me at GenCon. I met Larry Harris a couple of years ago, but did not have my old rulebook with me. I made sure to rectify that problem this year. He's a great guy. Axis and Allies was basically the game that kicked Risk to the curb when I was a kid. I hope to spend one night's earnings from a bar band gig in October to buy the new game.
