new C&C design?

Post by Fizz »

From Steve's blog:
"Peter continues to slug it out with the new C&C look and design....oh didn't I tell you?"

Anyone know anything? Willing to give a sneak peak perchance?

Yes! Please! I've said it recently at Dragonsfoot and I'll say it here. Kill the cream-colored covers!

Just as long as they don't end up pastel, I'm cool.

Sorry Orpheus, but I am one of those guys that like the C&C covers! I have always had a thing for fantasy maps anyway, and the way it was used as background imagery, along with the font choices and brilliant art images, made it stand out as different......and really, really cool.

As I am a nostalgic person, I will feel a little sad to see the look change, but I know whatever look it takes, Peter will ensure that it rocks.

Most modern RPGs these days go for full-color covers, some big-ass image spread all over the cover, and a huge "name" splashed on the top... so, let's go basic. Let's go back to solid black background, an embossed C&C logo in gold, and to be even better... an engraved image. Something you can feel, literally.

Damn you all! (Except PIperdog and his oddly capitalized name.) I very much like the current PHB cover design. Cream is cool.

I didn't mind the color so much. I just thought that the map part of it distracting, too busy.

If Easley makes the new covers, I will have to buy these new printings!

Part of the problem with the current layout of the covers is that they're a real pain to get right for printing. Also, Steve and a few other folks are tired of the current yellowish scheme for everything C&C. If we are going to change the look, now is the time since the CKG is IMMINENT (you can belee dat!) and will have to look like the PHB and M&T.

*chuckles* If Steve could afford Easley, TLG's name would probably be WOTC.

Yes, the covers are changing. Yes the colors are changing. No, its not going to be a huge departure from whats there. Just refining a bit. But there will be new art.

*chuckles* I get the same if I change the look or no. I'm doing new art on the cover cause I'm bored with the old stuff.
Sides, I made a promise to a fellow a while back on a specific piece of art requested, and I figure now is a good a time as any to get it in there.

I have to say, I personally liked the earlier light cream colors with the Bunce map background, and I was not as wild about the yellower later style with the Aihrde folio map with less detail.

Having said that, I am really liking the blue and deeper Maroon textures of the Towers of Adventure box and the C2, Basic Set covers as they are previewed on the site.

I like the original covers but have no problem with change or updating them.

Who said we're changing the look. What with the CKG coming out and a new printing of the PH and MT in the offing...who would suggest such a thing????

*chuckles* And, I should mention, these TLG dudes can scoff all they want, but it was the gold covers that made the books stand out among all the dark colors out there, and made folks pick up the book.

Color psychology is everywhere a constant. ^_~`

A good point... but (hee hee), if you do consider updating... man that Towers of Adventure cover looks just plain sharp and elegant methinks. (just my opinion)

LOL!

My goldfish (LeRoy) is stalking me now as I type. Big fisheyes, swimming back and forth looking for food. My daughter won him in a carnival and now he's giant and gobbles up his food like . . fishzilla or something. Heh, he's on his 3rd fishtank. I may need to buy a 20 gallon soon!

I'm fine with the colors too. Some new art and a redesign should be great, but definitely keep it easy to look up on my gaming shelves and spot my C&C collection/books, no matter where my kids incorrectly placed them!

I liked the PHB 1st printing look best but the current one is pretty good too. That said, I really don't mind if it's changed either...just no more darn glossy pages!
