It's a standard response one learns in the military. No self-respecting enlisted man wants to be mistaken for an officer.

I believe BFRPG uses ascending armor classes, while LL sticks to descending.

It also seperates race and class, which I think is part of B/X's charm.

Yes. I like some of the things that BFRPG does, and it's a pretty cool game in its own right, but it seems that BFRPG is trying to bridge the gap between Basic and Advanced. Yeah, I know, I'm five years behind in the realization.

I have to disagree with you on that issue. I think Basic Fantasy RPG is not a bridge, but a reimagining of Basic D&D and B/X D&D. The author, while reliving his childhood memories of Basic and B/X, decided he liked seperate races and classes rather then going the total old-school approach by combining them. Regardless of what the author was trying to do with Basic Fantasy RPG, the game does stand on it's own as being at least somewhat different than the games it was based on.

I think I remember Frank Mentzer once saying that if he were to write BD&D now he would have separated class and race.

AD&D per se is as dead a system as Latin is a language, while the C&C game has much the same spirit and nearly the same mechanics. --Gary Gygax 8/16/06
