2e incorporation...
I'm thinking of starting up an "off day" campaign, though instead of using the racial stuff straight from the PHB...using the racial stuff from the 2e Skills and Powers book to provide a bit of racial diversity...so a hill dwarf isn't the same as a mountain dwarf isn't the same as a deep dwarf necessarily.
Thoughts, pitfalls, advice?

Yep, it will work fine, nothing is powerful and it is simply a way to write up variants within the same race.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Cool. Something like this crossed my mind some months back, but I never entertained the notion. Glad to know it works out okay!

That's kinda what I thought it looked like too Tree...be an easy straight over within reason. Glad to know I'm not totally off my nut.
I remember my desert elf ranger from those rules...have to dig out his picture and clean it up some.

I've always been a huge fan of S&P and thought it was a defacto 3e so was pissed when the first announced 3e.

I'm of mixed thoughts on the Players Options line for 2nd Edition.
I thought the "build your own class" part of S&P was great and it is one of the few aspects of the PO line that I allowed in my games. I stuck with proficiency slots and standard attributes and everything else though. I didn't much care for using build points for proficiencies, etc.
For the most part, the PO books got left by the way-side in my games.

While I like the concept of the S&P character-build system, when I pulled it out and looked at it last summer I found that there seemed to be many tweaks that I would have to do in order to make it fit my C&C game. (Sorry, but my memory fails me at the moment as to the exact details; I just remember that it seemed like quite a few things that I would have to adjust. )
I'd love to make use of the rules, however, so if anyone converts things over to C&C I'd enjoy taking a look at it...

if used for races alone, i don't think it would be too much, but for classes, i am afraid it would break down quickly, primarily because of references to things which are non-existent in castles and crusades (priest spheres for one, weapon mastery and "proficiency slots" for another, and other examples) so i can see it being pretty simple to do. i would likely modify the options somewhat, though, as they are not internally equal. maybe something like this:
elf (30 cp)
bow bonus (5 cp) -- you gain a +1 bonus when attacking with a bow; you do not gain proficiency with the bow but may spend an additional 5 cp to do so
sword bonus (5 cp) -- you gain a +1 bonus when attacking with a sword; you do not gain proficiency with the sword but may spend an additional 5 cp to do so
lightstep (5 cp) -- you have the move silently (dex) ability and may add level when making such checks
sleep resistance (5 cp) -- you gain a save against the sleep spell with a +10 modifier
apprentice (20 cp) -- you know 4 cantrips (any spell list) and have four spell slots available. if you have additional spellcasting ability from class, these add to what you gain
twilightvision (5 cp) -- you have the twilightvision ability
third prime (25 cp) -- you may select a third prime just as if you were human
and on and on. i think you get the way it could be done.

I'm a fan of 3.0 so I prefer to use those rules instead of S&P.

I should have a rough draft of this up over the weekend for those interested to look at.

Here's my stab at porting the 2e Skills and Powers Racial Abilities to C&C...including the Half-ogre.
Enjoy!!!

What's to tell really? If you don't necessarily want the same elf as is in the book, you use the character points to purchase racial abilities...essentially creating your own variant of elf.

My only problem with this sort of thing is that it tends to lead to characters playing the same thing regardless -- it just takes longer for them to pick abilities and min-max their options. I also do not, particularly, like differing amounts of points for different races -- they should all have the same or it leads to the implication X race is better because they can spend more (this is not, necessarily, true); this also leads to other, non-intended issues, such as a CK deciding "well, it looks like a third Prime is only 10 character points; sure, elf with 50 of them, you can buy a third prime for 10 and still have tons left over..." when that is entirely not the intent -- it was meant to cost all the points (or damn close.) But, other than those quibbles, which is why I have never been a proponent for this (though I'm all for trying to see if it'll work).
Decent, though... just not really my playing style. Oh, and to go in Domesday, it has to lose the 2e reference.

Hey Serl!
Yeah...I don't disagree with anything you've said there...including the reasons why it's not suitable for Domesday...but it's a work in progress sort of thing so folks can use it or lose it as they wish.
