Aendryth's Eldritch Compendium PDF now available!

Post by jamesmishler »

Aendryth's Eldritch Compendium is the title of a thick black tome of spells arcane, unusual formulae, and strange magic items developed and written by a mighty wizard known as Aendryth the Eldritch Wizard, or simply, The Eldritch, who knew great renown some decades ago. Hounded by his former arcane master, Aendryth has not been seen in civilized lands for nearly 20 years. Some say he lives today as a hermit, others claim to see him now and again in disguise in far-distant ports. While many have attempted to adapt his works in that time, most have failed to capture the artistry with which he wove these spells. His friends and well-wishers hope that someday he will return.

The tome contains the Eldritch Wizards unique spells, as well as formulae for creating magic items and potions using the vitreous humor and other body parts of the prysmal eye, a creature of much interest to the Eldritch Wizard. The tome contains the following spells and formulae:
SPELLS

Aendryths Volley (Level 6 wizard)

Blood Childe (Level 6 wizard)

Body and Soul (Level 9 wizard)

Chirurgeon ex Nihilo (Level 7 wizard)

More (Level 4 wizard)

No Time for Pain (Level 2 wizard)

Summon Mother Scarlett (Level 6 wizard)

Swarm of Eyes Arcane (Level 6 wizard)

Temple of Love (Level 8 wizard)

Unseen Archer (Level 2 wizard)

Walk Away (Level 1 wizard)

Wave of Corrosion (Level 3 wizard)

a very cool product. I bought it last night and scanned it. I like very much the lengthy spell descriptions, and the sense of personalized magic. Then again I always liked the named spells in AD&D (Nystul, Bigby, etc). Good stuff, James.

I'm considering purchasing this product, but am curious if it (and Barbarians of the Wilderlands, for that matter) will be seen in print format (a la Wilderlands Jam). James, could you shed some light on this?

At this point I have no plans to publish in print products that premiere in PDF format in the same format found, i.e., I will not publish Barbarians nor Aendryth's EC as small print products. They might, just might see print someday in a "Wilderlands Jam" product, or as part of a larger compilation of classes or spells respectively, but not individually. The same can be said for similar PDFs I might release from time to time. Considering how poorly the 2008 Wilderlands Jam has sold, it will be well into 2009 or later before such see print in any format, likely... this might be because the Sorcerer and Warrior-Mage were available free on the AGP site for quite some time, depressing the value of the print book, but I can't take that chance.

On the other hand, there are some PDFs coming up that will eventually see print, notably the Valley of the Dead Queens series and similar products. These are LARGE products that can be broken up in small, self-contained products as PDFs and sold individually. So I release them in PDF format much as today a monthly 32-page comic book is released in anticipation of the trade paperback.

Similarly M&T PDFs might yet see print as individual booklets; jury is still out on that.

Here's a run-down of the possible print status of existing PDFs that are not already in print:
Rhadamanthia Continental Map: Already printed in very limited quantities at 11" x 17", to be given to subscribers then, if any left afterward, sold. Will possibly be reprinted down the road.
World of the Wilderlands: Already available as an article with AGJ #1, will likely be expanded and printed as a companion to the Rhadamanthia Continental Map if the map is reprinted.
Monsters & Treasures of the Wilderlands 1: Might see print on its own, might see print as part of an M&T compilation. Still deciding.
Barbarians of the Wilderlands 1: Will only see print as part of a "classes" book for C&C, if I get around to doing one. Not on any remote schedule at this point.
Aendryth's Eldritch Compendium: Will only see print as part of a "Spells of the Wilderlands" book for C&C, if I get around to doing one. Not on any remote schedule at this point.

Currently my publishing schedule going forward should consist of:

1 M&T PDF per month

1 Other PDF per month

1 or 2 Print Products per month

Should. SHOULD. Not trying to anger the Fates, I'm merely saying should...
