The search for Serl!
The search for Serl!
I have missed the verbal caress of Serl and the carbon cat. Where hast thou gone? Once I suspected Jungger was our departed brother, he refuted my claim forthwith. O where is Serl? Perhaps a rare and unknowable manuscript has the answer.

The one called serleran is on a mission . . . on another plane. He, Count Rhuveinus and Laroo the Gnome Sorcerer from the Valley of the Mage seek a relic.
The fabled sword "Discerpo" used to cut the horn of Unklar.
It is whispered that Aristobulus is with them.
Some say Murlynd rides again and Zagyg is laughing. The moon is in the 7th house and Jupiter aligns with Mars . . .

I have heard some rumors concerning a strange and frightening ritual he will perform on the 31st of this month, involving some sort of codified ceremony in which he will be "conjoined" with another being's lifeforce.... there are strange things afoot, and I fear we may see an evolution of "Serlness" as he emerges from this ritual of ascension from singletude.

And a BAD one. Haven't done it since about '81 or so. I prefer natural sophorifics like hemp or shrooms.

Indeed.
The druids will gather at Samhain. I just wish we could all join.
Best wishes to our friend.

May god have mercy upon his soul as he willingly becomes assimilated into the collective.
Of course, if you're really looking for him online, he's not too hard to find, if you know where to look.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Ah! You missed out on why he left and cleaned out his accounts.
Well, to put it simply, Serl thought someone was insulting him seriously, missed the smiley face indicating in was "friendly" insulting, and Serl left these boards.
Word is that Serl now knows/understands that the insult was meant in a friendly way, and will be making his way back to these boards. Likely after he becomes a married man at the end of the month. Maybe before, only Serl really knows.
Maybe he'll use this thread as his catalyst for coming back.

What shadow of the man we once knew will haunt these halls? What creature once so full of passion and might will slink from the new darkness and weakly pass through these halls with but a wisper of those past raves?
The Black Fate that befalls so many a young lad now hangs over our trusted and stout companion. Woe to us and woe to him that such a sad fate should fall to him.
Run for your life man!

I'm with you, papercut! I also wish Serleran the very best on his upcoming nuptials. If I'd gotten married on Halloween I'd have wanted the guests to throw bite-size Milky Ways instead of rice at the end... but that's just me.

if it is to be deemed an honor, then i must say it is with reluctance to admit i am not who you might wish me to be, and that, only if i have read the original post correctly and not with arrogance. however, i also get the sensation that this missing person is not wholly desired, or, rather, is welcome to a leave of absence.

Well I don't know if I'd go that far, voynich. He was a very...interesting fellow, to say the least, but I don't know if I'd go as far as to say that his absence is welcome. I don't know how I'd say it, though, to be perfectly honest.

perhaps not. would you care to elaborate so i can better understand what is meant, or who this person is / was? it would appear that some people want that poster to return (in which case, it might be a good thing to be considered similar) but to others, it is as if they would rather the person remain gone, making it not a good thing. is this an accurate estimation?

He is co author of the M&T and one or two other C&C products. He is also the rules guru, which is why the rules questions have gone unanswered as of late. He is pretty much the only one who can give "official" answers.
As Serl knows, he often comes across as rather gruff, but behind it all he is a good guy with a good heart and one heck of a creative mind. So sometimes he has bothered people who don't understand that is just the way he is and doesn't really mean to bother anyone. When he intends on doing that he is very obvious about it.
Maybe when Serl returns he should put a disclaimer in his sig area? "I am rather gruff as a matter of course, do not take it personally. When I intend to bite your head off you will know it."

Serl is a great guy ... I wouldn't say he is gruff but certainly blunt -- and that's all right in my book Of course some people would equate that being the same thing. He's certainly an asset to these boards and the Crusade and, with his wedding three weeks away is quite busy. He is *still* spearheading a few initiatives for the Crusade -- just not here at the moment. Nothing wrong with that since these boards have plenty of veterans who will be able to help and answer certain questions just as much.
However, when it comes to M&T questions specifically, he *is* the best person to ask -- don't be shy and go on over toe the C&C Society forums and post a question there if you're truly in a jam.

I did say "comes across as gruff", not that he is. Well, he is, but thats just "him", not anything meant in a personal way. Straight forward, blunt, truth. Rather refreshing if you ask me. Especially right now with having to pay so much attention to politicians. At least here in the US.

Straight forward, not a lot of nonsense sort in terms of game and game balance. Usually has excellent constructive criticisms if taken with an open mind....
In general...someone with something to actually say and an enjoyable conversationalist IMO.
Btw...I heard they found his cloak out back of the barn in the straw. Same place they found that girl a bit delierious last month.

My timing was, as per normal, off a bit. For the first time in over a year I posted a substantive post here in Open Discussion about the direction I think future M&T tomes should go and really figured at least Serl, if no other Troll Lord affiliate, would have replied.
At least I know why I've seen no hint of him. Sorry to read this. He is very thorough when it comes to the rules and conversions of monsters.

Treebore, thanks for the idea.
After I posted the above message I went over to the Domesday forums via the C&C website. By mistake I clicked on the chat lind and for some reason trying to log into the chat window re-booted my wife's computer.
I'm not on my own system due to the small motherboard fan in front of my wife's keyboard. The fan came from my system only twenty minutes ago. I've heard the sound of a groaning spirit and made my save. That fan made the most horid noise that make my hair stand on end as it died!
