Plague
I got a copy of Plague by Expeditious Retreat. It is a 4e sourcebook detailing the use of the plague in your campaigns. I haven't finished the book yet but it is awesome. It give a lot of information allowing you to afflict the plague upon your setting, has a few new magic items, monster and diseases.
Even if you dont play 4e, I bet you'll find a lot of good stuff for your own campaigns in this book. Spread some bubonic goodness.

My wife's focus for her history degree was disease and its effects on societies and their economies. She then went on to be a medical research librarian.
So I have a living talking book about plagues, so I would say that such a book would allow DM's to definitely add some cool events and challenges to their games. Disease spreads so fast, and kill so fast, you will NOT have enough clerics curing disease anywhere close to fast enough. Plus being cured does not say your then made immune, so reinfection will likely occur, further taxing the disease curing characters in a setting.
So I agree such a book can definitely add some very different challenges.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Interesting. If the plague spreads faster than clerics can cure diesease, that begs the question: who gets cured? who doesn't and what are they gonna do about? Will clerics heal nobility and the rich first? what will their gods want them to do? Will a god of the poor, demand their clerics only heal the poor? how would the rich/elite react to that? Will theive's guilds kidnap clerics and sell the cures on the blackmarket? Hmm.... all sorts of great conflicts possible.

Yep. All sorts are definitely possible.

A lot of interesting stuff is to be found in the book. It even talks about how the material components for Cur Disease in 4e are expensive and how the ingredients become even harder to find as the plague progresses, therefore increasing the cost.
With sections like, Magic and the Plague, Social Unrest, War and Persecution...
Its just an intriguing read. Definitely hope to see some more works of this quality. It really spurs the imagination.

Hmm, I'm becoming convinced I might want this book. I like expeditious press books. How much of the material is convertible to C&C?

Wasn't there already two other splat books that dealt with this same subject? And I recall at least one article in an issue of Dragon back in the mid/late 80's.

Splat books dedicated to plague/disease? Not that I remember. There were books with small sections that touched upon it. I'm not sure about Dragon articles.

I don't know about touched on it...I have an entire clerical spell sphere dedicated to plague in one of the books I have. To me it sounds like a simple rehash of already covered topic. But that's me...

Well, knowing the publisher, this is a THOROUGH covering of the topic, campaign adventure ideas, campaign impacts/effects, including economics, etc... so its much more then a clerical spell sphere.

I'm sorry Tree. The re-hash was meaning more than the spell sphere info I have. I don't doubt it will be thorough....just that the information I do have provides much of what is mentioned in enough detail that I simply don't feel a need for anything more.

Ah! Understandable. Yeah, even though I love the publishers past material, the edition alone is enough to keep me from buying it, especially with money being so darn tight.
Nowadays I find reasons not to buy stuff, rather than looking for reasons to buy stuff.

1st 3 chapters are all fluff. No rules, just good info.
Some of the crunch chapters would work well in C&C, just modify a fe wthings. I love how 4e handles disease, and converting the diseases from the book to C&C would be easy.
Critters, not too hard to do either.

HA! I got ya there DD! *L* The Dragon Article was done under 1e or 2e rules...
The books however were done under the 3e rules which you're right...weren't D&D. They were AD&D!
