Yeah, the character sheets steamed me quite a bit. The dice, not so much. Thats been going on forever. I even have a dice bag with the TSR logo on it that came in a "premium" dice set package deal.

Indeed. Those character sheets are a stinker of a deal. But they upped the ante this time around, however, with a $13 price tag for a set of dice. Thank goodness they came out with an official set of dice, lord knows you don't want to be rolling any "unofficial" dice!
I've always thought that was a riot..."official dice." Though I do fondly remember seeing "Dragon Dice, or somesuch at the local Waldenbooks for the first time. Not the Dragon Dice from TSR in the late 90s...this was a little blister pack of dice - one of my first exposures to gaming dice. If someone remembers these (as I think I may have gotten the name wrong), please correct me!

You can get a comprable set from Chessex for about $8-9 (and that's some good dice I'm talking about). Factor in a dice bag and yeah, I guess it may be worth it. I guess it depends on how much you want the D&D imprinted bag, though. I have a few of those old "Dragon Logo" TSR bags from back in the day, and they aren't that spectacular. YMMV

EDIT: There were these, but I remember mine were crystal high-impact and I don't think they were done by TSR. Guess they weren't called "Dragon Dice."

You could always go for a set of Cthulu Tech dice...all the scrolly rune type stuff on 'em too...

I'll stick to my $5-10 set stuff from Chessex and Crystal Caste.

Same price as the 3e Deluxe Dice.

It wasn't upped.

And yes the TSR bags sucked.

Oh, and no I don't buy the "official dice".

I got a bajillion chessex sets and see no need for more dice.

"official" sets have one advantage though, they are carried at chain bookstores. Kids can get them even without having a game store around.

True, true. Rip-off then, rip-off now. A shame, to be honest.

Yes, they are. They are quite (well, relatively) valuable, too, if still in their blister package.

When I made my initial comments I wasn't even thinking of Reaper plastic mini's, which is why I mentioned "metal" and talking my wife or daughter into painting them for me.

As for dice I usually buy the Chessex Pound O Dice when I want more, which likely won't be again in this life time with how many I have now.

Those are the ones! Sweet. I loved those jokers. I probably bought three or four sets of them. I tried looking them up a while back but only found the older style (the one in my previous link). Sadle, they're not in the blister pack anymore, but I'm almost certain I still have them loose. Thanks for that link!

Hehe. Let me know how that turns out. If you can get it done, I can use that to get my wife to paint some for me!

I love the pound o dice for general group community usage but I'm obsessive when it comes to my personal usage dice. I like solid color dice and full sets of said color.

My dicebag has three sets in it. Orange, red and yellow, in a flame design dice bag.

I get agitated when a non-uniform die creeps into my bag.

Help me.

That kind of help takes a long process of intensive counseling.

I've got at least 1 or more boxes from every release including the recent Dungeons of Dread.

On the coming new ones, I think I'll wait and see what they look like before deciding.

I've been happy with their minis and have got some nice orc, goblin, kobold, skeleton, gnoll, hobgoblin and other - parties that will be perfect for CZ:UW.

From their site today:
In general, were providing nearly a 50% increase in paint steps per figure, which makes even the common and uncommon figures in the set look better, adding more vibrancy and detail.

I suppose we'll see.

They now have a ranger figure that is dead on one of my character. I had to get it.

I hardly ever bought the box sets. Not that I wish to support the evil empire but StrikeZone online has some D&D minis you can buy individually for some good prices.

I don't have time to paint, but painted ones do look better. I sent a nice batch to Egg of Coot but if I did that with all my minis I would soon be destitute.

I like reaper, but they dwarf my old school Ral Partha minis that were true to scale.

Ral Partha was still the best mini company hands down, though Reaper does kick ass.

Anyone know how I can find any RP minis still?

But to answer your question...I avoid anything wotc these days. If I see something that really matches my campaign I will but not like I used to.

OK, Darksword is awesome! I have them book marked for when I actually have money to spare for such things again.

For those, like me, who had never seen them before:

I too have my black dice which are invariably pulled out when I run my game.

More than a couple players who have joined my campaign over the years have commented on the fact!
I also have the 'loaners'.

The only "special" dice I have are my blue and grey D20's. They have rolled a lot of crits over the years.
