Dave Trampier, Combat_Kyle & Rhuvein

Post by Tadhg »

Well, an odd title, maybe. But I know Kyle might have seen this article, or be interested about Dave Trampier. And perhaps many of you as well.

I mention Kyle because he attends Southern Illinois University and I have many friends that graduated there, but I haven't been there since before Kyle was born!!!
No he's not young, I'm old.
Anywho, interesting article - thanks to Rob Kuntz from his website!

[Edit: Oh yeah, of course the Trolls have been to Carbondale and many of you as well, so hopefully you'll get something out of this article.]

Ya. We've known where Tramp is for some time now. Trouble is, due to various reasons of his own, the fellow is flatly uninterested in returning to doing art for the rpg industry. Even his closest friends and relations have tried to entice him to no avail.

There have been many a thread on such at RPG.Net... He could have a go between and never have to have contact with Anyone in the industry...

Oh Well...

I don't know what made him leave, but he's made his choice, so I respect him for it. I can still admire and like the stuff he has done. No need to try to force the man to do what he, clearly, doesn't want to do.

*thinks*

Seems... familiar.

Hehe, the story about the preacher and the atheist cracks me up. I almost wish I'd been there!

He still drives a cab here in C'Dale, a great talk when your drunk and you need a ride home. I have been weary to bring up the topic of RPGs because he is one of the best cab drivers in town and don't want to be put on the "do not pick up list." I am working up the nerve to try to do an interview with him for the Crusader at the least.

That would be very interesting if you could chat him up a little and of course it would be really cool if he would agree to an interview.

Say, it Halloween still crazy down there or has the university/city cracked down on insanity/partying that used to happen there?

Everybody has their own reasons, and really you have to respect the man for that. He wasn't the first to leave the RPG scene in this manner, and I'm sure he won't be the last. Fans, politics, fans, small salaries, fans, can be taxing on the soul.

Me too. It's a shame that as far as I know, the only way to get them all is through the Dragon magazine archive cd. I think that there was an unofficial website for a while, but it's since gone.

Although, I do recall seeing an ad in an old Dragon for a Wormy story arc collection.

The city and University cracked down on Halloween in 2000, the strip is closed for that weekend and the liquor stores can only sell wine and 12 packs, no kegs or bottles of the hard stuff. Wild Halloweens are a thing of the past.

Wild Halloweens are a thing of the past.

As an SIU grad I find something vaguely obscene by that remark

Trampier is possibly my favourite D&D artist of all time -- only Otus rivals him in terms of greatness.

I've always been intrigued by his abrupt and apparently absolute departure from the field.

On the other hand, though, it's obviously his moral right to live his life as he chooses, and I would be very reluctant to broach the topic myself.
