Article suggestions: SIEGE Mechanic with examples

Post by danbuter »

Seriously, I think someone who really understands the SIEGE engine should write up a big article on it. Give a basic, easy-to-understand explanation of the mechanic, and then some big tables with lots of examples.

I personally still have problems with this, as the explanation in the rulebook is so badly written that it confuses me, even though I know the basic idea is simple.

SIEGE Mechanic=base TN + CL. There are suggested CL ranges for easy to difficult in the PH. Decide what the difficulty should be, what stat is most relevant, set the final TN, and roll to see if you beat it.

So why don't you give me specific examples of what you find confusing and I'll at least tell you how I would work it out. I don't do things "by the book", so my answers won't be in any way official, just how I do it with my house rules.

Even so, it should still help out with ideas on how to do things to your liking, which is what C&C is all about.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I wonder how a sage advice style column would do?

AD&D per se is as dead a system as Latin is a language, while the C&C game has much the same spirit and nearly the same mechanics. --Gary Gygax 8/16/06

Only if Serl doesn't write it. Serl is rules knowledgeable, obviously, but he tends to write in a abrasive manner. Then again, he is married now, so maybe his wife will polish him up a bit.
Hey, Serl can write up the "official" answer, then I can try and write it "nicely".

If he wants we can practice such a system with the Society e-zine.

James M. Ward Managing Editor here,

I'm reading and listening, I will look into these things in an effort to make the magazine better.

Which section do you find poorly written? I contributed the "Using Attribute Checks in Your Game" section, so if that's the culprit, I need feedback!

If that's the section causing the problems, I probably should refrain from volunteering to cover this topic in H&A.
