Most prized RPG possession

Hi guys, I just cleaned up my library and I was wondering what is YOUR most prized RPG possession? Book, mini, whatever . . .

Mine is either my complete collection of Blood Sword gamebooks or Dragon Warriors RPG both by my favourite author Dave Morris.

3 Things, in increasing order of importance:

3. My 1983 Box Set of World of Greyhawk

2. My 1e DMG signed by Gary

1. My original copy of B2 (the one that I got in the basic set I first got in 1979 in 6th grade, and is the oldest D&D material ever for me), which was signed by Gary last January just before his passing.

Well, it was my roll of Vorpal Duct Tape, but now that is gone I'd have to say my 1E AD&D PHB signed by Gary and my OD&D boxed set.

My C&C boxed set and core books. CZ. AD&D books and mods.

Number 1 prized possesion - BD&D Blue box, signed by Gary and Tom Wham.

It was a great thrill to ask Tom to sign the rulebook at the LGGC and he said, he didn't contribute anything to it.

At first, I was befuddled and then . . remembered that I knew that rule book backwards and forewards - and I flipped to a page with his art.

Then he was amazed and thrilled . . and signed it.

We then flipped through the book to find 1 or 2 other entries. At the time he commented and shared his thoughts on Tramps's art (his brother in law) and we chatted a bunch about the old days.

He then led us over to Gary and expressed his surprise that he didn't know his art was in this edition. Gary then signed it.

And then Tom, Gary, me and Jim Ward proceeded to play Dragon Lairds.

The CK screen Gary screen signed for me at his last Gen Con.

My wife picked out a set of dice for me when I was first married. To this day, they sit separate from my other dice, and are only used in extreme crisis in-game situations.
After that would be several items received as gifts from good friends, including some Ramon Perez art and The Traveller Book.

I have a Codex of Erde Steve signed and a CZ:Yggsburgh Pete signed. As for prized I think it would be seeing my 6 year old enjoy the game as much as i did when I started playing.

I'm going to have changed mymind by the next time I'm asked this but:

Twilight:2000 box set with the Visla River/Free City of Krakow trilogy modules (fits all in the original box) because it alone survived my bible-thumping evil stepmother.

or, the Castle Whiterock box that MrsCharlie gave me last year for anniversary (not rare at all and even discounted recently, but still tickles me that she got it for me).

My most prized RPG possession would have to be my collection of old ICE 1st Edition MERP RPG and Middle Earth modules. Followed by all my new C&C stuff. With a special place being reserved for the Castle Zagyg boxed set, which I will always treasure.

Hard to say.

I've got some stuff signed by EGG that I like very much... I've got my own personalized edition of the C&C White Box that was gifted to me by TLG back in the day which I will always treasure... And even some of the more pricey modules that I own are not as prized as the original d20 that I purchased in 1987 and still use to this day. There's a history and story between that d20 and I, and I guess that would make that my most prized RPG possession.

Oh, I also forgot to mention my collection of dice from the old TSR which I still have (since 1981). All seven sets.

They have a special place of honor on my shelf. They were part of an order that a group of us placed while we were all stationed in Germany together in the Army.

We not only got a discount on the purchase, but got a hand written note enclosed with the order from Gary thanking us for our service to our country.

I don't have anything particularly as exciting as signed items, and I'd be hard-pressed to pick anything as a treasure.

I could say the C&C boxed set. Or the OOP products that took forever to track down.

But the products I'd say that are most value to me are the battered Basic, Expert, Companion, and Master D&D sets that were where I started gaming. My core 1e and 2e books that show equal wear. That and my old character sheets and campaign notes. Basically, all the stuff that's the tangible evidence of many fond memories.

Ahh, good choice gentlemen. I would also be remiss if I did not mention my Mentzer Basic D&D sets (both the red box and the expert blue box) which were my first forays into RPGing. I still own them now 21+ years after I got them. Ahh, the memories. Good times, good times.

Over the years... I've gotten many things. Some which are favorites for one reason or another but other things which some people would hold special attachments to, I've parted with for one reason or another.

My first set of dice... a set that would have been included in one of the old D&D box sets (in this case, the Mentzer Basic) was given to me by a friend when I started the hobby. Gaming dice were hard to come by where I lived at the time so they were obviously of great importance. However, when I got a couple of sets of my own, this same set I gave to someone else who was just starting to play.

My first AD&D PHB and DMG were of the 2nd Edition variety (early printings), I did not keep -- I passed them on to someone who came to D&D with 3.x but eventually rejected that in favor of C&C. They had come to understand the value of the older style (as in pre-3.0) and began to mine stuff from there to use with C&C. My Monstrous Compendium Binders also went to his direction. I remember, my friend (the same who gave me the set of dice) fronting me the cash to purchase the Monstrous Compendium (vol.1 and 2 and appendix 1) simply because I'm the one that inherited the DM mantle. I also remembering paying him back in some cases a dollar or two at the time. I was only 13 and didn't have much in terms of disposable income.

I still have a couple of copies (earlier and 'black' printings) of the PHB and DMG as well as the Monstrous Manual to replace my Monstrous Compendium.

However, the oldest thing I own... that is to say the thing I have owned for the longest... is a copy of H2 - The Mines of Bloodstone. It was this which I played for the very first time... it was also this that I ran for the very first time. We had created a character for me... we didn't have a PHB or DMG but we had access to the full line of the BECMI sets so we were able to cobble together a 16th level human fighter. Yep... New player gets to play a fighter! I was having a blast but my friend, keeper of the D&D box sets and giver of the sacred dice, was started to get a bit of a 'raw' throat from narrating a lot. I was having so much fun that I volunteered to continue DMing! After all... it didn't look so hard, my friend was running a character of his own, and my enthusiasm made up for lack of knowledge. Questions that came up, and there were many, resulted in my asking and consulting the 'previous DM'.

We all had a blast... I was hooked... and the owner of the module, a fellow player in the game, let me keep it.

The module itself is precious... but above all... all the fond memories that the game has given me all these years (and especially those formative years) are my most treasured of possessions.

For rare/valuable it's probably my copy of Bunnies & Burrows, 2 ed. But it might be my OD&D OCE box.

For beloved beyond all reason, primarily for nostalgia's sake, it's got to be my well-cared-for copies of the core TFT books: In The Labyrinth, Advanced Melee and Advanced Wizard. Right behind that are my Traveller LBB box, my Moldvay/Cook Basic & Expert books and my 1st ed. AD&D books.

I thought I'd seen this question somewhere else, and I thought I'd responded, but I guess not... or, I didn't see me in here anywhere. But, oh well:

My most prized possession is not insanely valuable, monetarily, but it is the most memorable one. An OCE (Original Collector's Edition / 6th print White OD&D Box Set) signed by Gary Gygax after we'd (my wife and I) played a game with him, in his home, at Lake Geneva. I'd been asked away, and she'd gotten his autographs while I was doing something else and then gave me them as a present. I may, at some point, sell my entire collection... but, this I will always keep.
