How cool is Gary Gygax?

Post by Treebore »

He is so cool that when seskis posted how he and his wife "tipped their hats" as they passed the Lake Geneva exits, Gary told him how to get to his house and to stop by next time for a cup of coffee!

I cannot wait to meet this guy in person.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Definitely a classy chap. I don't think that has ever been in question.

Not here, but it certainly was/is in question over at the WOTC boards.

I went by his house this year during the LGGC. Drank some beers, talked shop, ate some brats and Gary's famous spicey beans, and, of course, did some gaming! He is a scholar and a gentleman, and not to be overlooked is that 50% of his open-door policy comes from his lovely wife, Gail, who is quite the character and will have you in stitches when she tells stories. Good times, indeed, and those who would villify the man are but petty sycophants that I'd like to give a good switching to.

Gary is a great guy and very social, and Gail is really sweet as well.

For everything he's been through, Gary hasn't stopped being a regular guy. Unlike many famous people, he hasn't "gone hollywood" or lost touch with where he came from or the people he met along the way. He's friendly to strangers, answers questions and keeps up with his email. If you ask me, that's pretty down to earth for a celebrity.

So kudos to Gary for "keeping it real"...and of course, for referring me to the trolllords.

I too can't wait to meet him - actually as we passed his exits we momentarily considered looking him up, but since we'd been on the road for 12 hours we really just wanted to get home anyway.

Next time....

Classy guy, playing LA with him on his porch listening to stories was definitely a memorable moment in my life.

Those who would vilify the man? Ghul, man, you're mild. Those who would seek to vilify the man because he will not support their game have not earned my respect, only my contempt. The only suitable fate for the contemptible is to be removed from the gene pool, with extreme prejudice.
