Stuck on a desert island . .

Post by Tadhg »

So, you go on a cruise, the ship sinks (everyone gets away safely on rescue boats) for some reason you miss the rescue boat and float to a desert island. Some crates wash up (food, generators, fuel, tents, water, electronic players etc).

And you always pack your favorite things to take with on these ocean cruises. So . . lucky for you those crates show up the next morning along with a lifeboat with 5 women.

[Ladies, feel free to substitute men for your choices]

.

.

Name the items you would have packed.

5 Books

5 RPGs

5 adventure modules

5 Movies

5 CDs

5 Boardgames

5 wimmens

5 computer/console games

5 bottles of liquor

Whats in your crates?

Alone on an island with 5 women? What would I pack?

Earplugs and a great pair of walking shoes.

The complaining will be epic, and guess who's likely to end up doing all the work?

Hehe, very excellent choices for a recently married fellow!! Well done. And if she goes online . . . then even better.

Feel free to choose your 5 fav beverages instead of the booze.

I would have to have tea and coffee for sure.

All I would truly need on a desert island is my .45 with as much ammo as I could pack away, my spyderco endura combat folder, my leatherman wave, some fresh drinking water, and a target rich environment with medium sized game in order to feed my face. I would hope to have brought a campfire creator (striking rod) and would be cool to have a copy of Rules Cyclopedia, some pencils and a few sets of dice
I travel light, you see.

EDIT: Now that I think on it a minute, I would more likely take my .40. The higher velocity round is more likely to penetrate thicker hide and the barrel length on my .40 is half an inch longer for a better sight radius and slightly improved velocity.

Slightly improved velocity? How heavy a bullet are you using? Stick with 165gr. and you'll get a huge jump in velocity (1150-1200 fps vs. 850 with a .45) It's tempting to go with the 185 in .40, but you lose so much energy iit isn't worth it:

155 grain bullet traveling at 1175 FPS (Gold Dot) has:

Energy: 475 ft/lb

A 165 grain bullet traveling at 1150 FPS (Gold Dot claimed) has:

Energy: 484

A 180 grain bullet traveling at 985 FPS (Gold Dot claimed) has:

Energy: 387 ft/lb

165 grain is THA WINNAH!

Hey Tom, I think you misunderstood me. I meant the velocity is slightly higher in the same caliber out of the .5" longer barrel not that the .40 only has slightly higher velocity than a .45 (which in the std. 230gr is FAR slower, even with high quality defensive rounds such as Doubletaps or even standard gold dots). Good to see you know a bit about the subject though, and I do use 165gr doubletaps topped with Gold Dots. They have the following stats out of my Springfield XD-M (4.5" bbl):

1240fps 563 ft/lbs (165gr gold dot)

It's awesome dude. The match grade barrel is kick ass and the 16+1 mag capacity is excellent in a .40. I own three XDs myself: XD9 SubCompact, XD45 Service, and XD-M .40... All of them are excellent. Ive got over 3k rounds through the XD9SC and it's been flawless. Probably about 1k or so out of the xd45 and a bit over 1200 out of the XD-M without major issues.
