Odd Q: Minis & Dawn of the Dead

Post by sieg »

Hey all,

As I've said on other threads, I'm a big fan of the old SPI boardgame of Dawn of the Dead circa 1978. I haven't found another copy as my roomie from many moons ago apparently took off with it while I was in the hospital. Anyway, I found scans of the map, counters, box cover and rules online.

I'd bought some of Twilight Creation's "Bag O'Zombies" with 100 plastic Zacks but they're not quite the right scale to use with my fantasy minis (about 20mm or so.) So, I wondered what I could do with them.

What's this got to do with the price of tea in China? Glad you asked!
I thought that instead of printing out the DoTD counters I could use the plastic zombies as the zombie markers for the boardgame. The Zombie attack # could be on the base of the fig facing down so you could set them up randomly and wouldn't know a zombie horde's strength until you entered their square; just like in the game. So far, so good.

What I've run into is the problem of the counters for the four humans trying to clear the mall (Steve and Fran the reporters and Roger and Peter the SWAT guys.) I don't want to just use the counters, since if I'm going to go 3D on the zombies I might as well go full bore right? I think I've got some minis that would work for the latter two, but am unsure which ones to use for the WGON reporters (GON=Gone, get it?.) LOL!

So, now that the above tedious exposition is over.... Anyone know where I could get minis for Steve & Fran? Maybe Roger & Peter too? I've got some generic grunt soldiers I could use for the latter two, just have their outfits painted blue instead of green....but actual SWAT figs would be nicer.

Thanks for lasting through this email, and all suggestions appreciated!
Mike

For modern figures (also, for a kick, check out the Caeser fantasy figures)

It'll be tricky finding a Fran, but I'll let ypu know if I see one.

Peace

Some of those are quite good, but I think the zombie pack are 25 mm figures.

Those girls would be squishing all of Sieg's poor Zombies.

PS, I just noticed that the Presidents are larger than 28mm as well.

Looking further on the site I noticed that some of the figures are about 20-25mm, nice find. I may have to order a few myself.

Would HO scale work, or is that way off? I bet model train places would have various civilians...

For zombies vs. WW2 troops action, you can try Tamiya's line of 1/48th soldiery (Right now, IIRC, Germans, US, British and Soviet). Eyeballing them, they look to be about the size of a D&D or Zombies! mini, give or take a hair.

Jason,

Actually I've got some old Airfix HO scale minis I could use for comparison. I *think* the zombies are a bit bigger but not by much. Yeah, Model train figs might be the way to go.

As for the 1/48 scale, that would work well for Weird War stuff I imagine.
Thanks all,

Mike
