Song of Blades and Heroes

Post by Heavy_Crossbow »

I've recently been trying a new generic-fantasy miniatures set called Song of Blades and Heroes. You can buy it as a PDF at this site: http://www.key20.com/product.php?produc ... bestseller

It's a good reason to buy Reaper miniatures, and if you have DnD minis lying around, you can use those as well. Lord knows I have plenty of both.

I was wondering how other people felt about the rules. To me, it seemed that it didn't work on a large scale, and I didn't like the morale rules. Also, big things died too easily. It's simple, which I like, and generic, which means no jacked-up prices on name-brand miniatures (I've been dealing with that my whole life). But it's almost...too simple.

Has anyone else played it, and if so, what was their take on the rules?

I have recently got the rules. I think they are very elegant - remember there design brief is to get a skirmish game in to 45minutes! There is a fix to big critters in the free zine 'Free Hack 2' - go to lulu.com.

I think the activation routine is inspired - really creates some tough tactical calls. warband experience is alos very good. Check out the supplements - lots og goodies in them - from wilderness games to dungeon crawls!

Yep I guess I am a fan...

I picked it up awhile back and played it once with someone's warhammer minis and it worked fine. We enjoyed it, but I don't think it knocked anyones socks off.

I have been playing for over a year now, strictly solo games, and I think the activation rules make it an excellent game for solo play.

Plus, it gives me something to do with my D&D minis when I am not role-playing.

Check out Mutants and Death Ray Guns using the same game engine. It is like a Gamma World minis skirmish game.

I love both games very much.
