Punisher: War Zone, I liked it.

Post by Treebore »

No, its not awesome. Its not Batman, or Ironman, but I liked it anyways. OF the 3 Punisher movies, that I am aware of, this is the best, by several degrees/notches/etc....

ITs a good action flick with plenty of gratuitous gunfighting violence. Plus I really like how they brought out the pain Punisher is in from losing his wife and kids.

So if you have been staying away from this movie because you were afraid it sucked, it doesn't. It won't knock your socks off like Iron Man or Batman may have either.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Wow, glad to hear. I like the actor.

Titus Pullo/Dagonet FTW.

Gotta throw my confirmation in on this: War Zone is definitely going in the collection. Lexi Alexander and Ray Stevenson finally, FINALLY did justice to the original concept and brought it forth with none of the rear-echelon producer second-guessing CRAP about how changing Frank's orgin might make it just a little more accessible or just a little more relevant or some such idiocy.

I don't know if it's going to be a financial blockbuster - from what bits I've heard and read, I don't think that's likely, unfortunately - but I'm hoping it recoups its costs on DVD release. In any case, Ms Alexander has my vote on Best Punisher Movie Ever.

That's good to hear. I've seen the first one, and even though I thought the plot was decent, the delivery was horrid. I own the second one, the Thomas Jane one, but I have not watched it yet (my 6 year old son got it for me for Christmas last year) - sadly I heard that one wasn't too spectacular. I'm interested in the new one but I was a little gun shy, seeing/hearing how the last two fared. But this sounds kind of like the Hulk movie - even though many said it was a bit subpar, I really enjoyed the new Hulk movie.

I'll have to check this one out. Thanks, fellas!

R... U... serious?!?

Punisher Warzone was GARBAGE! Of those that saw it, let me remind you of the extreme meth-head free runners jumping from building to building and Punisher firing a undermounted RPG at one of the runners. The RPG swirled around like a god dammed anime missle and struck thge guy dead center and blew him up... CRAP.

Hey, nice acting by... NOBODY. Did anybody actually see the acting of the guy who played Detective Martin Soap?!?!?!?!? I didn't know the character in the comic books was mentally challanged? Oh yeah, he wasn't.

But I guess the dialogue was ok... Just kidding it was CRAP.

Hey, Microchip (potentially cool character)... YOU ARE OF NO USE TO THIS MOVIE PLOT...DIE!

SO YOU KNOW Lexi Alexander (who is a god dammed terrible director FOUGHT to have her name removed from this movie, but eventually gave up. One day before the movie opened, Lexi Alexander tried to spin the movie another way... she actually said that the point of the movie is a DARK COMEDY. A Dark Comedy, give me a break.

Ray Stevensen (Titus Mutha-****ing Pullo) is going to be lucky that this movie didn't kill his career.

The only point to this movie was to show obscene amounts of violence and gore for shock value's sake. The violence was so comedic, that it didn't really shock anybody.

What an utter, stinking pile of garbage. I have seen a fair amount of Punisher fans actually like the movie. I'm not sure why because eveything about the movie was terrible. Though, as it has been beaten into my brain that Punisher Warzone actually follows how a punisher comic might play out on screen. Apparently in most Punisher comics, the story takes a back seat to the revenge driven Punisher doling out vengence. THERE IS A REASON THAT MOVIES ARE NOT COMIC BOOKS. COMIC BOOKS DIRECTLY TRANSLATED TO SCREEN DON'T WORK. And if this is the case with Punisher Warzone, I guess it suceeded spectacularly.

A lot of people fault Tom Jane's Punisher as not being Punisher enough... well, that movie was a complete origin story and was a reinvention of the whole premise. You may not like it, but it was hands down a better ~movie~ then Punisher crappin' Warzone.

Omote review: 3.0 / 11.0

One of the worst movies of year by far.

So, Omote, how do you really feel?
I'm curious to see this one, but it certainly has gotten mixed reviews. I haven't seen the Dolph one in years, but as a kid I liked it. I thought the Thomas Jane was, well, terrible.

I'm really just amazed how Hollywood has trouble with this character. He is the simplest one out there. Let's face it; the Punisher is more or less a Death Wish rip-off. It should be the easiest thing in the world to make into a movie: guy's family is killed; guy gets angry; guys shoots a lot of people.

I think that's the whole problem with Punisher movies - they've all been done hundreds of times before. The Punisher isn't a great choice for a movie franchise, because it doesn't really add any new perspective to the genre it just files the serial numbers off of older shoot-em-up action movies. The Thomas Jane/John Travolta movie was appallingly similar to the equally awful Steven Seagal movie, Hard to Kill. If you are reduced to ripping off Steven Seagal you know you've hit rock bottom.

Haven't seen it yet, but I've seen the last two Punisher flicks. I liked the Dolph Lundgren one back in the day, but I was a young teenager.

I thought Thomas Jane did a good job as the Punisher, even if the film itself wasn't entirely the best.

Folks here have hit the nail on the head about the Punisher at heart being a cinematic trope that has been done to death in other films.

Well, Omote and I obviously have to disagree on this one. The acting was decent, especially with Stevenson and the little girl and the FBI guy. No Golden Globe or Academy Awards material, but not horrible either.

Yeah, the punisher trope is done to death, but if I let that stop me there are a lot of movies I would not have watched that I enjoy, most recently Batman and Wanted.
