Castles & Crusades: Martial Artist Class PDF

Post by jamesmishler »

Now available at DriveThruRPG and RPGNow:
Castles & Crusades: Martial Artist Class

This seven-page PDF features a new class for Castles & Crusades, the Martial Artist, designed as an alternative to the ascetic monk. The class is designed to emulate the classic non-monastic martial artists, from kensai (sword saints) to gangland street fighters to noble samurai. The class provides a simple framework for all the core abilities needed for a dedicated martial artist, and provides dozens of ideas for additional optional abilities based on martial arts weapon styles; the exact framework of special abilities is left wide open for the individual Judge to adjudicate based on her own campaign. If you want a character that kicks butt and takes names with open fist, bare chest, and a pair of chucks, this is the class for you!

The Martial Artist class abilities include:

Hide

Move Silently

Sixth Sense

Unarmed Attack

Unarmored Defense

Weapon Focus

Stunning Attack

Ki Strike

Battle Mind

Fist of Fury

The PDF also includes new weapons for use with Castles & Crusades:

Chakram

Chigiriki

Jitte

Katana

Kusarigama

Manriki-Gusari

Nunchaku

Sai

Tessen

Shuriken

Tonfa

Wakizashi

The new Martial Artist class can be used with any Castles & Crusades campaign!
NOTE: The new Martial Artist class will be included in the forthcoming Wilderlands of High Adventure: Guide to the Wilderlands of the Mystic Realms product (AGP03001), where it will be expanded upon and considered a core class for that region. If you plan on acquiring that product at a later date, you do not need this PDF.
NOTE: If you are an Adventure Games Publishing subscriber, you should have received an e-mail detailing how to receive a complementary copy of this PDF. If you did not receive it, contact me at the Super Secret Subscriber E-mail Address to let me know.

This seven-page PDF retails for a mere $1.00! Buy it now at:

Thanks James,

Bought it tonight along with City of Tell Qa. Not sure if I have a spot for either in my campaign, but I've loved your other work, so had to pick these up.

I finally got it! I had to wait to have other stuff to buy, because rpgnow doesn't like when customers purchase for less than 5$ at once. So, I have read through it, and am very satisfied with this product. At 1$ it's almost a gift, and the class will complement well along the regular C&C monk.

I like it a lot. However, could you reformat it with a larger margin on the left side. I 3-hole punched it, and killed some text to do so.

I'm not generally a PDF buyer. However, I broke down today and ordered the various AGP C&C PDF's, the martial artist one included.

Every last one of them is great I have to admit. Printer friendly, not overly large and full of goodness.

BUt....if the stuff ever gets piled into a larger print product? I'm sooo getting that too.

Crom,

After being burned by too many pre-announcements of release dates, I no longer announce release dates... it is currently "in progress," which means I'm working on it. Fate seems to have it in for me whenever I am more detailed about my progress.

Also, it has now been slightly renamed and split into two products, though the one product subsumes the other:
Gazetteer of the Mystic Wilderlands will be a 32-page saddle-stitched booklet with a color cover, includes the 11" x 17" full-color map, price TBA. The Gazetteer presents the info on Western Karak in the same format as the classic Judges Guild Wilderlands booklets, i.e., minimalist. This lets the individual judge pick up and run with the setting with maximal range of choice.

The Guide to the Mystic Wilderlands is a 128(ish)-page soft-cover perfect-bound book with a color cover, the 11" x 17" full-color map, and again, price TBA. This book gives the Mystic Wilderlands the Necromancer Games-style treatment, with many more details, complete histories, new races, and so forth. Everything that is in the Gazetteer is in the Guide in a different, expanded format. As the Gazetteer is distilled from the Guide, they will be released at the same time.

I changed the name from "Mystic Realms" to "Mystic Wilderlands" lest there be confusion with the Forgotten Realms from Wizards...

Printing prices are fluctuating rapidly, as are all things in this economy, though unfortunately for some reason it seems they are still experiencing price inflation rather than the general monetary deflation that prevails. Ain't that the way of it? So I'm waiting to get a price quote at the last minute before I set my MSRP on new products. M&T1 ended up costing more than I thought it would, so my MSRP is lower than my calculations normally would have required. Live and learn, hopefully...

Thanks for the info. JAmes. Is the Mystic Wilderlands product going to include all of the character classes like those found in the old Oriental Adventures guide from the 80's? And the monsters too?

The Guide will include the Martial Artist, plus details on adapting existing classes to Karak in order to have an "Oriental" feel. This will sort of resemble the Kits of AD&D 2E, but not be as intrusive; more along the lines of suggestions than requirements. I don't feel it is necessary to make a new class for every different variant; the Martial Artist suffices for its different focus, and the other core classes can easily be adapted.

Karak is a mashup of Mongolian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, and other various cultures, so there are a lot of influences and options to include.

As to monsters, those will eventually be written up in a separate Monsters & Treasures of the Wilderlands product. The Guide is going to be pretty huge as it stands!

Me too!

Any word yet on an ETA? Also will it be a PDF or only a paper book?
