New Barbarian?
New Barbarian?
In TL's blog he mentions that the Barbarian is going to be (or has been) redone. Anyone have a clue how?
I know there was a post about redoing it but I thought that was mostly just us fans kicking around ideas.
Wonder if we will have to buy the new reprinting on the players handbook or if they will release it as eratta?

Probably both in the reprint and errata. As for how it's to be changed, no idea on that one. I was one of the few who liked the barbarian as is (except for the name) so I generally didn't have too much to do with "fix the barbarian" threads.

You won't "have" to buy the new book. Maybe we'll get lucky and there'll be a download actually on the Troll site...
Yeah, Steve did say in a post that the barbarian was going to get a rehaul, and the illusionist was going to get tweaked as well.
And as far as the content being downloadable, I got blasted over at the Upcoming Products forum when I suggested that the additional content of gods be available for a download, so I'll keep my mouth shut here. Maybe they can put the revised classes in Crusader?

I'd consider it a mistake to make alterations to the Core rules obligatorily purchased. But, that's me.
Maybe have it in both places would be best. A Crusader "preview" and a few months later, up it goes to the website. I could live with that.

Erik the Viking is the baseline model.

Agreed. It's one thing to add little things that aren't really "errata" like changes to the encumbrance system, etc. But a rewritten class should be available as a pdf download for those who choose not to pick up the new books. I'll be buying them so no worries on my end, but I still feel for those who won't.

Yep, and I am pretty sure the Trolls feel the same way.

The new Barbarian is Mucho Grande!
Better abilities and more rounded out as a class...

It would be nice, for those of us with earlier editions, to not have to buy this book, but instead have a nice PDF Errata.............

The updated barbarian is tres bien! However, the new barbarian is not really errata. In effect, it's almost like a whole new class. You can use the old barbarian and the new barbarian in the same campaign if you wanted. The classes are that different, mechanically speaking.

Omote hit it on the head.
But I can see what people are saying, it would be nice to be able to get the class without buying a new book.
That said, the new book is sweet in other ways, so it's a good buy. I'm assuming there will be some kind of holiday sale coming up, or it may be cheaper on amazon.com.
edit-
I don't think the book is cheaper on Amazon at this time, but I tried to pump it a bit

Primal Will: Extra HPs kick in when severely wounded
Ancestral Calling: Temporarily boost the HP of comrades

Sorry, I've just got to be like that..
Do what makes you happy boss! I like both barbarians, and I could see both being used, but I don't know. I don't see anything wrong with combining some class features. I admit, at first I was hoping TLG would do the recast of the barbarian clser to the 1st Edition one, but I'm kind of glad they struck out in their own direction.

In the Favorite Class Combinations thread, Hrolfgar suggested multiclassing the new barbar with the old barbar. That could produce some muscle for sure. Neat idea.
