R.I.P. Khan...

Post by Treebore »

May you get Kirk in the after life...

Or may you get a real "Fantasy Island" started...

Thanks for the great memories.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I've heard (mainly from my mom) that his 50s and 60s acting was spectacular. He always seemed like a class act to me. He will surely be missed.

Bummer.

I bet he's one of those old school good actors who is famous for things that don't showcase the breadth of their talent.

Having said that, he's honestly really frickin' excellent in WoK.

i shall have to watch it again this weekend in his honor.

Interestingly enough, the last several evenings, TCM has been running a documentary miniseries on MGM narrated by Patrick Stewart. They play a bunch of old interviews with the talent (in and behind the scenes), and Montalban was featured prominently in tonight's episode (I've seen him in some of the others, but tonight covered the post-WWII years when he was there). Seeing him followed by Van Johnson, Cyd Charisse and some of the other luminaries we've lost in recent months, especially tonight of all nights, was particularly poignant.

One of the last standing bastions from a time when film was art, he's joined a heck of a cast. Just think what Thalberg could have done with him....

I have the chills... caught one of the Planet of the Apes films he was in and my wife asked if he was still alive just a few days ago....

R.I.P. To both we lost today, Ricardo and Patrick M.

Indeed it is a sad day. I grew up watching Fantasy Island with my grandmother nearly every week, and remember him fondly as Khan. And, seriously, who could ever forget the fine corintian leather...

I concur. Truly a sad loss. Like many other 30-somethings, I saw him on Fantasy Island, and ST II:TWOK. I was only a toddler when he appeared in two of the Planet of the Apes movies, but I saw them on 70's and 80's tv airings. Never met the man in person, but I always admired him. I went to a few midwest Creation Trek conventions, but never saw him there. He occasionally appeared at the West Coast cons, due to health reasons(I believe). That said, I did buy a Creation autograph 8x10 of Ricardo as Khan. I figured I'd never meet him, so...Anyway, the man was fantastic in almost anything. A local radio station played a clip of him doing a commercial for Maxwell House Coffee(had forgotten about that). "Good to the last drop". Spoken in true Montalbanian style. Whether Khan, Armando, Mr. O'Rourke, or selling some coffee...that guy was smooth. Rest in peace, Ricardo.

...and let us not forget Senor Senior, Sr.

Adding a whole new generation of Montalban fans to the legions out there.

Farewell and RIP, sir.

Another great actor has passed on. I was just thinking, that in his younger days, what a great Zorro he would have been if cast in the role.

Rest in Peace oh great Khan.
