Ultimate Toolbox from AEG

Post by Treebore »

No, this does not belong in "Other Games", this version is "system neutral" so will apply to C&C as equally as it will to any other fantasy RPG.

It is a newer, bigger, stronger version of the old 3E Toolbox, system neutral this time, 400 pages, Hardcover, about $50.00

Here is the cover
http://greatcleave.blogspot.com/2009/01 ... olbox.html

and if you wish you can PM me your e-mail and I can send you about 10 Meg of chapter PDF's and the Index PDF.

For those board members I have already e-mailed about this I did not send you the index, so if you want it let me know.

Yes, the PDF's are legal copies I am allowed to distribute.

No, I am not involved in this project, I just really like Toolbox, so I am very interested in this product.

Might be useful. Toolbox was a good product.

Yep, and this is more of the same. Much more. So I expect it to be better than Toolbox simply by virtue of having so many more charts/tables, etc...

Plus I like that its going to be hardcover. The Toolbox's I have are softcover.

Its release should be announced by AEG "any time now".

The lead author has also offered to make the Introduction chapter available to me and those interested in seeing it.

So for those who have already PMed me I will assume you want it, and for those of you who will PM let me know if you want previews of the magic, city, Index, or intro chapters, or even all the above.

I have yet to receive the Introduction Chapter, so those who have already PMed me will have to wait until I get it to see anything, it takes a while for these attachments to attach. So I don't want to do it dozens of times.

Thanks TB. As for being released any time now, does that mean in .pdf form or in print form?

Looking forward to this.

The hard back print version. The PDF won't be available until some time after the print version is released.

They also believe there will eventually be a soft bound cheaper version done as well.

Tree, thanks for the look. The material looks great and very useful. I may have to save my pennies for it.

Good gracious. Toolbox was probably one of the best d20 supplements and it's in my Top 10 all time role-playing supplements. This is a fantastic announcement. I can only hope the new Toolbox can live up to the old one. So far it sounds like it might. Tree, you'll be getting a PM from me shortly.

3 months?! That ain't soon enough. TB, be a sport and keep us up to date on this (like when it's going to be released and whatnot). I would appreciate it. I needs me a HB copy.

Nice, I will be purchasing a copy as soon as it is released. I don't need a preview to know this is going to be a worthwhile purchase. It will be a very nice addition to my collection and will supplement World Builder nicely.

Ah, great point. Yeah, no preview is neccessary for me as well. If it's even better then the original Toolbox, then this new version will be big time win.

Wow, I had heard the toolbox was useful, but the sample you sent Treebore, looks fantastically useful. I'll have to start saving some cash for this one.

Thanks, Tree. Those samples made me weep. Truly spectacular.

And this artist, Jonathan Hunt. Was it me, or was that guys stuff amazing? Damn good artist, if you ask me.

This book is too damn expensive at the moment, considering lots of it is reprinted from the first edition. Anybody know of any good deals on this yet?

I wouldn't say "lots" is reprinted from the first book. First off this book is 400 pages, the first is less than half of that. The first also was 3E compatible, all of that is removed in this printing to make it universally compatible. So maybe "some" is reprinted from the original, but definitely not "lots". The best deal I have found so far is under $40 with shipping.

Yeah, I will admit that it's a bit on the pricey side, but well worth the price, IMHO.

Just out of curiosity, should we assume that if you leave out the "IMHO" you are providing a dishonest opinion?

The lowest I've seen is $44 including shipping. Where did you find that price?

Also, Amazon is reporting this as a "paperback" book. Was I mistaken in thinking this was a hard cover product?

I found it through an Amazon vendor, they were offering it $10 lower than everyone else at the time.

Yeah, its a soft back. Dang it!

I just ordered it from FRP Games for $39.50 + $4.95 for s/h. The total was $44.90. Based on what I've read, I don't care whether the book is soft or hardcover. Looks like a cool book.
