Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Man, I'm still on the fence about this...

??? I guess it depends on what you define a "War game". I can define any D&D game as a war game, for example. Big bombs and bio weapons included.

I read some reviews of it. They weren't too impressed by the material. O_O

Some games, like D&D, have to be specifically ran as "war games" and others, like, say Recon, or Twilight 20XX is one by default. Or, seems to focus primarily on that singular aspect.

Or, maybe I'm confusing it with some other game. Either way, I'll wait until its out and then buy it for 50-75% off. I have no great love for the game, so I have no reason to buy it hot off the press.

Yeah, I used to listen to reviewers, then I started to find out I disagreed with them too many times, so I quit listening to them. Plus I quit writing them.

Heh, if I listened to reviewers I wouldn't own most of the movies, music, books, and games I own now.
Eh, the main reason I'm on the fence is I don't know if I'll get any play time with it, for the money invested. That's never stopped me before, though.

Reviewers are always just suggestions... but it really depends on how the review is written. If I remember right, he just mentioned some things that sort of turned me off to the whole thing.

Well, if its a reviewer from England, then he was full of bull f*c*s. Thats the other problem with Reviewers, they rarely actually try playing with the rules, let alone making sure they understand them and how they work. They often think they are such geniuses they know all they need to know from just reading things. I found that to be totally false too.

The mechanics are a bit odd, like for skill checks you get a d20 per "rank", usually only 1 or 2, unless your really good, then you can get 3 or more. So you may roll 1 to 3 d20's to succeed at skill checks.

Still, once I got past the "wierdness" and started figuring out how altering it to the 3 stages of difficulty, with stage 2 being the default, works, I started warming up to it a lot.

I haven't played it yet, but I have spent hours reading it, doing test rolls, and character generation. Combine that with my grasp of Probability and Statistics (21 credit hours and worked for 2 years doing analytical statistics), I am liking what I am seeing.

If you like, you can link to any reviews you have read, and I can tell you anything I know they are wrong about.

Hm!

I went looking for the review and it seems I can't find it. Maybe I read a review for Twilight 2000 and mistook it for 2013??? That seems entirely possible. hehheh... just ignore me, I'm siwwy. =S

Multiple D20s, though...? Sounds wacky. There are 3 ranks for each skill, and each rank imparts a D20 to roll? That seems like a pretty massive margin between ranks. Or, am I reading that wrong?

Sort of related...

Have you ever read the Eldritch RPG? Skills are done through dice ranks which you can then branch off of through specialties. So... Base Melee D10 > Sword D6 > Long Sword D4. If you wield a Long Sword, you roll D10+D6+D4. Any other kind of Sword would be D10+D6.

Yeah, the multiple D20 thing seemed a bit whacked to me as well at first. Then when I looked at how target numbers are set and such I actually like the probability spread it gives things. Better than similar D10 and d100 systems I have seen.

Oh, he is referring to the Twilight vampire movie? I take it the vampires glittered in it? Sorry, none of the females in my house hold were interested in seeing that movie. They Looooovve True Blood, though.

*chuckles* Ya, both author (who I've known for a number of years) and her books are hilarious.

The book should be in 93 Studios hands by March 27, which means those who pre-order should have it within a week or two after that.

Anyone who has yet to pre-order, the time is now, and it is a very good deal.
