How is Star SIEGE?

Post by daddystabz »

How is Star SIEGE? I got the game at the last GenCon but haven't gotten to start looking at it? From what I've seen it looks quite a bit more complicated than C&C. Is this the case? Does it do space stuff well? Would it handles something like Star Trek well?

Originally, I was unsure what I would think, having a light background in sci-fi games, but now that I have actually read the rules, I do like the systems in it, and find it quite liberating for those who want to build everything and anything, rather than rely on something being done. I do still think something to provide some basic gear, perhaps based on genre, would be a very welcomed addition, but not necessarily needed.

I had told my wife that I wanted to play a weird game set in the cosmoverse between Thundercats and Silverhawks, and now I know what game makes that simplest.

It's a great game. Some sections too me a 2nd read through to "get" but it's not a difficult system.

I agree with Serl that I'd love to see an equipment book done by genre for it but it by no means necessary. I'm currently working on two separate settings for the game when I have time to.

Definitely a system worth picking up and yeah it does space stuff well. I'm using it for cyberpunk and science-fantasy.

The system is versatile.

Just got it today. Will post my thoughts later this week.

How well would StarSIEGE work for a cyberpunk style game?

There's mechanics for designing cybergear. No reason why one couldn't focus it in that direction.

Eventually, if I can find some time, I'll get my Cyberpunk supplement for StarSIEGE finished... I've posted some preview stuff here on the boards, though.

There are, indeed, rules for creating cyberwear in the book, though...

I'm going to give SS a one-off playing a game set in the World of the Thundercats. I dunno why, really, but my wife asked me if there was a game that could do it, and I said "yeah, bunches" and then she wanted one that was familiar so I narrowed it down to Gamma World or C&C -- she picked C&C. Have a bunch of stuff to create, though, like the Sword of Omens.

If you have seen some of the fan created work for StarSeige, then you really begin to open you eyes on how fantastically versitile the system is.

Hurry up dude. I've got piles of cyberpunk style artwork sitting around in the closet. Stuff I drew years ago.

Has anyone posted up their fan stuff?

How about for Metamorphosis Alpha?

Post by Necrotheologist »

I've been thinking about picking this up to use it in my Metamorphosis Alpha game. I'm thinking the SIEGE engine would be a much smoother gameplay experience as compared to the MA engine.

I've never looked over the SIEGE rules, and MA is levelless, would this be something that can be done? How about mutations, is that something that is supported by StarSIEGE?

Any advice would be welcome.

StarSIEGE: Event Horizon is a skill based game (i.e. levelless) and there are rules for both Mutations, either Beneficial or Detrimental.

I just got Starsiege today and will be running my first game this Sat. After reading the game I find Starsiege to be the best Sci-Fi game I have ever read. I love it. With that said however, with only the boxed set anyone running a game would have to be willing to invest a lot of time into creating Tech for the game. Although it does give you a setting and list of gear for that setting, the list isnt all that long.

I plan on creating my own setting and with only a gear listing that comes with the game I will be creating most things myself. However the game does give you easy and fast tools to use to do so. It isn't any great chore to make any one thing. It's just the sheer amount of Tech I will need to create that gives me a little pause.

So my opinion is that for any game master out there who doesnt mind putting in a little work(and most don't mind that or they wouldnt be GM's ) this game is awsome. You can run any type of Sci-Fi setting you want with just this box set.

For those who want everything done for them I can't say that Starsiege is ready for you. Maybe give it a little longer for more settings and lists to get churned out first. Though if you like the Setting that comes with the books this is a more doable thing.

Josh has a bunch of items scattered across the internet made for StarSIEGE. I would love to have a place where people can contribute different items and abilities for the game.

I am going to run a one shot Zombie game using the StarSIEGE ruleset. I got some basic ideas of how to do zombies from the zombie thread and then expanded on it.

I would love to see some of the items GameOgre has made for the setting.

Folks are welcome to post such things here. If someone wants to start a thread for that I'll be sure its stickied at the top of the page.

I started a thread for items, special abilities and vehicles. I think this will be a good start.

If we need threads for races, planets, etc., make sure you create a thread and ask one of the site admins to sticky it. Please make sure the thread is generic to all of a component of the StarSIEGE game and not your particular setting/campaign/world.

OK, I have tried for a way to describe this game, and after reading Gallowglacht's fulsome and effective review, Dr Rotwang!s excellent blog post, and after finally bending my rusty old brain around it, I finally have an answer; a way to answer the original question without taking up more pages than tehre are in the damn rulebook:

THIS IS THE ONLY GAME THAT HAS MADE ME CONSIDER ABANDONING ALTERNITY AS MY SF SYSTEM OF FIRST CHOICE.

There, now I've said it.
"History teaches us that men behave wisely after they've exhausted all other alternatives."
