Announcing C&C Society GenCon Tournament!
Announcing C&C Society GenCon Tournament!
The Castles & Crusades Society is pleased to announce that, at this year's GenCon (Aug, 13-16), we will be running a Society tournament.
Five-hour tournament sessions (4 total sessions possible) utilizing a specially designed point system to determine winners. Players will compete for success in parties in a custom tournament adventure set in Troll Lord Games' world of Aihrde, the After Winter's Dark campaign setting, written by Steve Chenault.
All players registering for this tournament must be, at the time of the event, registered members of the Castles & Crusades Society. Membership in the Society is free. If you are not already a member, please enroll at our Society website before the event begins.
Prizes will include various TLG products & Crusader subscriptions, the specifics of which TBD closer to the event.
Characters must be C&C game base classes and races, and will be outfitted from pre-determined class packages at the start of tournament play. Guidelines for rolling characters will be provided on the Society website closer to GenCon. Pregenerated characters will also be made available.
There will be up to four 5-hour sessions, 2 running concurrently on both Fri. and Sat. afternoons at 1:00 PM. Each session will run the same point-scaled adventure, with players accumulating points. All players will be ranked by point total after the completion of all sessions, with the top 5 ranked players receiving prizes (TBD). This is NOT a multi-round progression, and each player will have completed their tournament at either elimination (death of character) or end of session.
These tournament sessions should be available soon on the GenCon registration site (under review currently).
I will be CKing 2 of the sessions, but will indeed be looking for one or 2 other CKs to run the additional sessions. Each table (session) will include 4-8 players, with a maximum of 32 entrants to this tournament (so reserve seat early as soon as the event becomes available!)
Please ONLY sign up for ONE (1) session!

Good to hear - I'm hoping to make my first trip to GenCon (and my first general gaming con visit in about 15 years).

Nice. Good to see that C&C is taking off even more this year at Gen Con. I'll be around but probably won't have time for a game. I'll definitely be seeing you cats though.
PS- if Omote appears on your DRADIS then run away, he is scary and not all there mentally.

This is a great thing for the society and for TLG. I think this does much to push forward C&C as a game with a dedicated following.
Great job!

If I can manage to get out that way to GENCON this year, I would love to either play or be a CK. I will even bring a roll of duct tape!
It's a bad time of the year for me to try and get away, though I will try, I would love to get out and meet some of you all face to face.

We have to remember each other if you ever go to Tucson (Wilcox or Benson would be better) or I head to Las Cruces, Silver City, or Alberwhacky again.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Sounds like a good idea to me Treebore. I used to get out to Huachuca about once every other year, but not anymore. But I will definately let you know if I am coming out your way again.

I wonder how many of us there are out here in the great southwest? May be we could hold our own convention? May be in Tucson, or El Paso?

Great to see the Society out there as an entity of its own. I have high hopes for the future of role playing and I believe that the Society could very well be a part of defining a new chapter in its history.

While Derek Bruder has assured me the C&C GenCon Society Tournament will be posted very soon, it is not up yet (knock on wood this week!), so here's a little info -
The tournament will consist of 4 tables playing the same module, 2 on Friday from 1 to 5 and 2 on Saturday from 1 to 5. The tourney is not progressive (i.e., no rounds - just the one game). There will be 8 spots per table. It is a GenCon ticketed event, but the cost is merely $2.00. There will be 12 pre-generated tournament characters that the group at each table will select from, all single-classed core C&C characters, with a selection of 2-3 "kits" for each character to allow for a little personalization. Eric Piper (piperdog) and I will each be running one of the games on each day.
The tourney scoring will involve pt awards for HD monsters killed (or turned) by individuals, awards for "aiding" in an encounter, pt awards for treasure gathered, pts for achieving certain "landmarks" of the tourney mod, pts for successful SIEGE checks, pts awarded by the Castle Keeper for role-playing moments, and some pts awarded by the players at the end of the game.
All participants will receive some momento of the tournament (TBD), and the other awards will be for the top 5 individual players across all tables, + a something for the top scoring table as a whole. The awards will be given at 5 PM on Saturday just after the final 2 games complete.
Again, this should be posted for sign-up soon on the GenCon page. Keep a look out, and as it is I will post more specific news on it on the site and in further updates.

The events are indeed now up an open for ticket purchase - so fast 1 spot is already gone on each table before I even knew about it.
Seriously,
I will be posting in the next several days more specifics - but if you are going and want to get in on this be sure and register at GenCon and purchase tix pretty soon.
Hawkwinter provided the link below to a site that helps find the events quicker than the GenCon site, but you will have to go to the GenCon site to purchase the tix.
