My take on the standard troll or stone troll for c&c

Post by crom10 »

The entry for trolls in the M&T guide list three different hit dice for trolls; 6d8, 7d8 and 9d8. But, the only ones discussed are the 7d8 river troll and the 9d8 hill troll and nothing for the 6d8 entry? I don't know why that is? I thought perhaps the 6d8 was for a more common troll and since trolls are named after certain elemants, I thought I would create my own entry for Stone Trolls. So here it is;

No. encoutered: 1-8

Size: Large 7' to 8' tall

HD: 6d8

Move: 30ft.

Ac: 16

Attacks: 2 claw (1d4 each), 1 bite(1d8), Weapon

Special: Rend, Dark vision 60ft., Twilight vision, Regeneration 2, Rock throwing

Saves: P

Int: Low

Alignment: CE

Type: Giant

Treasure: 5

XP: 360+6

Stone Trolls stand 7 or 8 feet tall. They wear woollen shirts and ragged pants and some don caps or woollen hats. They are man shaped with thick limbs especially their forearms. Most have protuding bellies that are constantly being filled with ale and food usaully meat. They have large dark eyes, earthen skin tones, pointy ears that stick out the sides of their heads and tusks that jut from tbe upper and lower jaw. They are usaully found in groups up to 8. Stone Trolls love meat even man flesh or dwarf or halfling, etc., but they relish the taste of mutton above all else! They stage raids upon farms, hamlets and other settlements in the middle of the night to slaughter and plunder especailly for food and drink. They will make off with the livestock singling out sheep and goats for their nightly bonfire feasts. They are always complaining and bickering, arguing and poking fun at each other. But, when the dawn's rays peek over the hills, the Trolls retreat into secret caverns until night comes agian for the sun's rays will turn trolls back into that which they came from. Stone.

Combat: Though they have large hands with claws and tusks, trolls prefer to use weapons such as large clubs, mallets, cudgels, mauls and huge axes to smash their foes asunder. Any of these weapons will do 2d6+4 damage in a stone trolls hands. Trolls can also throw large rocks and stones up to 120 feet doing 2d4 damage. They use large knives ( large for Trolls) to gut and skin their prey.

For other information and abilities see M&T pg. 80 & 81.

Thats it. Let me know what you think guys.

Looks great to me, and I really enjoy "The Hobbit" feel you gave them.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

No doubt, good stuff.

See this is one of the reasons I wish TLG would release more monster books. At the rate of the fine critters that you and others are creating, I'll never have to have another TLG Monster book. I can just use what you have hear and go with it!

Well the 6d8 is a typo. (fixed for the 4th printing) But hey, your approach works too.

Third printing. 4th printing is the PH.

At least I hope you meant the third printing of M&T, and not the 4th, however many years down the road that would be.

*chuckles* Ya. I'm sitting at a convention in Dallas right now, and all the people are a bit distracting. Especially the girls in the black fetish wear.

Always nice to see alternate versions and new creations.

Me, I don't use these by the book, but I do like to see something original... or, at least new to C&C.

I agree there! I always hated the old trolls, "mindless and regeneration" never worked for me.

Distracting might be a word you can use but I'd probable use a few other words to describe it!!!

You'll notice he didn't say what kind of convention he was at. We'll probably see video of it on HBO well after prime time.
