Favorite Vigilante?

Post by serleran »

Been watching some vigilante movies recently and was curious what vigilante was the most favorite amongst all of them, media notwithstanding. For me, its still likely to be The Punisher, but I also like Billy Jack.

Rorschach. Take no prisoners and stands by his convictions. Gotta admire that even if I don't entirely go along with the convictions.

El Mariachi

It probably helps that the first movie, titled "El Mariachi," never strayed too far beyond high school-level Spanish.

Coming in veeeeery close second, The Brave One, played by Jodie Foster.

I watched it when it was called Death Wish.

Harry Callahan.

Oops! He's an *official* vigilante...

In movies : Charles Bronson..Death Wish.

In Comix : Batman . Though Punisher is a close second. I haven't watched the recent Punisher movies to rate them.

Heh, well, Billy Jack is an inspiration for many to-be vigilantes. Certainly most the characters portrayed by Seagal, and even Rambo in some ways, not counting Chuck Norris and others -- the guy set the standard, even if the movies are very, very, very campy and so obviously 70s (in a funny way.) Good stuff. Hell, even the last (released) Billy Jack movie is great, despite it being a complete rip on Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (even using some of the same dialogue!) Ahh, good stuff. I'll have to get the Billy Jack Experience box set now.

But, yes, Bronson is difficult to beat in his role as vigilante.

The Punisher, or Mack Bolan (who is the original Punisher).

Man...good question.

For nostalgic purposes, I'd say The A-Team. Othewise, I like V (for Vendetta), Michael Douglas's character from Falling Down (he kicked total ass in that movie ), Batman, and the Punisher.

Mm, yes, Falling Down was a great movie, and I normally don't much like that Douglas. The modern Everyman as it were.

I think who one picks as their defining vigilante says something of the one doing the selecting, too.

This is a very tough question. I like Death Wish and And MD in Falling Down. Then there's the Punisher and Batman, but who is the best... I have to go with The Outlaw Josey Wales. Some of the best western one liners of all time.

Well, when someone like me is big time into characters like Batman, Rorschach, and Edmond Dantes, it means be afraid, be very afraid...

You could be crushed by the 1-2-3 Kid, which is to say, I have no reason to fear you Peter. Now, if your favorite vigilante were Sylvia Beach, I'd be much more concerned...

Well, hell. I change my answer to Charlie Rocks. If Jack Burton is a vigilante, you can damn sure bet he's the best. He can see things.

It's all in the reflexes.
(or at least how loosely we define vigilante. Fitting Ash under that label is a feat beyond even me.)

I've only read a couple of the stories but couldn't Solomon Kane be considered a vigilante? From what I've read, he certainly seems to take matters in his own hands.
