We are planning to go see it next Tuesday at a matinee. Family of 5, and all that.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Welp, here's a bit of info, the same author of the Watchmen also created the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and V for Vendetta.
Both graphic novels of which are a lot darker and much more brutal, and much less PC than the movies.

I'm psyched.
From the little I know about the movie adaptation (been a fan of the book for years) it looks good and they used the book for the storyboards, so that's going to be as tight an adaptation as possible, I think.
People get all bent out of shape about little details, but forget that movies, books, graphic novels are all different and have different structures and conventions.
Now, if the end is like, totally different, that will be annoying, but if one character's voice is like, slightly different than the way you imagined it reading the book, this is not a deal breaker for me.

I, like Maliki, know almost nothing about the Watchmen. I want to read the graphic, but I think I will wait until after I see the movie. My experiences have been that it's always better to watch the movies first.

I should also point out that this perfectly illustrates what can go 'wrong' when they decide to do a movie adaptations of graphic novels. While I loved the job they did on V for Vendetta, I loathed the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The Graphic novels on the other hand were both excellent.

Here's some promise for the WATCHMEN movie adapation: the theatrical release is going to be 168 minutes long. Zack Snyder (director) already promised that there will be an ultimate DVD release of this movie around November or so that will integrate lots more footage as well as the movie-within-the-movie, The Black Freighter. Altogether Zack Snyder promised the ultimate edition DVD will be 4 hours long. That's a lot more footage, which this graphic novel/movie adaption MUST have IMO.
I'm going to check this flick out at the midnight screening on Thursday. So psyched over here I actually took the day off from work. Whoo hoo!

I didn't have a problem with the League movie. Just the kind of film I enjoy.

Watchmen is HIGHLY reccomended. Yes, it's not the amazing graphic novel, but director Zack Snyder stayed extremely close to the source material. Without giving too much away at this point in a review, I'll just say that Watchmen is damn good.
Warning (should I even warn?)... this movie is shockingly brutal and violent, with lots of sex and Malin Akermen nekid.. alot. I guess it's hard for that type of violence and sex to come across on the pages of a comic book. It's faithful to the book, but when you see it on screen... it's quite, bold.
Omote Rating: 9.0 / 11.0

Cancel the nominations for the academy awards. There's no need to have them this year. This movie has to sweep the Oscars. It has everything. Action, meaningful plot, explosions, gratuitous sex, even better, gratuitous girl on girl sex. This movie stomped so much ass that colons centuries hence will feel it!

I'm not sure if you guys who just saw the movie have read the novel yet or not, but what did you think about...
SLIGHT SPOILERS WARNING HERE

The opening montage of the Watchmen world with the overlay of Times They Are a Changin' by Bob Dylan? That part wasn't in the novel obviosuly, but was a masterstroke of genius to put that in the film that way. Fits perfectly with Watchmen, and is an amazing set up for the film.
OH, and Jackie Earle Haley as Rorshach... GENIUS CASTING! Amazing acting.
In my opinion the movie is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I was surprised how well they traslanted this to the silver screen.
Now, I can't wait to see the Ultimate Edition DVD which is about 70 minutes longer, including the Black Freighter in movie, movie.

Awsom e Movie!! We had not read any Watchmen comics or anything and loved this movie!! It is very much not a standard Super Hero movie in any way shape or form(that is both good and bad).
This movie is on my top 10 Movie list now! Though strangly as a Super Hero movie it doesnt rate as High as some other lesser movies.
Strange how its both so much better than Spiderman,X-Mutts and Ironman and somehow not as good at being Super Heroish...
Maybe its due to there being not one character who comes away clean as a Hero in the end. Shrug.

I haven't seen the movie yet but, if it got that point across, it succeeded in translating one of the key points of the story to the big screen.
I have existed from the morning of the world and I shall exist until the last star falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Gaius Caligula, I am all men as I am no man and therefore I am... a god.

Even more spoilery for those who haven't seen it. But I wonder how many caught the "Good Luck, Mr Gorsky" line when that vignette of Neil Armstrong happened?
Oh man, I about fell out of my chair laughing. I sure was getting stared at cause no one else in my theatre crowd seemed to have caught the line or its significance.

Ah that is what he said. The audience was to busy laughing at the reflection in his helmet and I missed the line.
It was good. Not cancel the oscars good but it was good. My wife hated it but I knew should would. Not her type of movie really.

2nd time still just as fun. Plus, there was more time to look at the little nuances in the film from the book, as well as listen to Mr Bradley's famed "Good Luck, Mr Gorsky" line.
