My high school gaming group messed around a bit with MERP, but we never really got into it that heavily. I think it just had too many charts for our tastes. I would be intrigued enough to give it another go sometime.

Thanks, serl. I think I'll stick with RMC...assuming my FLGS can get it in. Does anyone know it these are available via distributor, or are they through ICE only?

I'm not sure but one of our local shops had them & may still.Don't know you'll have to ask your shop guy or e-mail ICE on that one.

IMHO, HARP was designed to appeal to the short attention-span dnd crowd. Ouch--that came out sounding a little harsher than I wanted it to.

No it didn't.

I've found that there are those with short attention spans in every crowd, not just in the D&D crowd.

That's like saying the WoW crowd is full of ass-hats. There are ass-hats in every mmo, you just see more in WoW because there are more people overall in WoW.

For DD or anyone else with RM knowledge...

I have the opportunity to pick up Rolemaster Standard System. Apparently it's very similar to RMFRP. Are Classic and Standard System basically the same as comparing Classic with RMFRP?

The main reason I ask is because I've looked at the description of the SS and it looks nothing like RMFRP, but yet I've seen comparisons between SS and RMFRP (saying it's almost a virtual reprint).

RMSS and RMFRP are virtually identical.

RMX is much saner. I have that also. Real close to the old Merp stuff, which I loved.

I play in a RM2 game which is on hiatus for the moment..Great game & I have tons of fun. But if I plan on running a RM game it'll be RMX with a few EA additions & possibly a rule or two from the companions. did you get around to playing RMC since you bought it Piper ? How did things go?

CHARTMASTER! errr... RULEMONSTER! errr... I mean, Rolemaster!

I did love those charts, though (theoretically)

I loved the critical hits tables. Those were fun.

Not to mention that a few years ago I fleshed out guidelines for using them in Castles & Crusades.

RM Classic does a very good job of reviving the old RM rules. As each of the companions was released, the power level of the game started to creep upward bit by bit. I think they have the creep monster under control. Make sure you look at creatures and treasures too.....the undead regenerate now!

LD,

I have not had a chance to run it yet; I have been focusing on C&C lately. No one in my group wants anything to do with RMC these days. lol. Maybe someday.

awww that sucks.. maybe they'll come around? Have any of them tried it ? Or are the kind of people who either 1) dislike anything not D&D related or 2) read biased reviews of past editions & base their opinions on those? Just curious. My brother claims that both C&C & Rolemaster sux but NEVER has read or played either game. He fits both examples above somewhat. He is willing to play nWoD & Exalted, though.

Actually, the problem is we played it for an entire campaign once, and they enjoy Gurps much more. I cant get that group to play CnC, or anything nonGurps anymore. Granted, I like Gurps, own all the books, and have played it for years, but I like a variety of game systems. I game on occasion with a new group, and play CnC with them.

I know what you mean though about gamers who wont try anything new. It really sucks.

I know what you mean, Piper. Everyone at my table loves d20, or some close derivative of, it's hard to get them to try something not d20 in the vein of 3.x. I did get them to try some C&C, fortunately, and am currently wearing them down to try Dragon Age.
