Ditto on GG Comment. I'm not a member of their forums, but if anyone is they should post the recent bidding. If you own the product you (and you've opened and looked at!) then you know it is par excellance. I got a direct mail copy - which for record did not come shrink wrapped - from TLG, which I pre-ordered and I am very happy with it. I'm still holding out that GG willl wish to continue with TLG on series. If you do post over at GG, be sure to link the planned TLG Castle Zagyg line that is listed in the Out Print Games or

On the shrink-wrap/no shrink-wrap arguement, I purchased my second copy from my FLGS. It did not have shrink-wrap. I asked them about it and they replied that it got to them without the wrap. But iss all goods. That was just my experience and I now have two sets to decorate my gaming shelves.

Just so y'all know, there was one that went for over $220 USD (it was in pounds actually) over this past weekend.

I'd expect a dry up relatively soon -- maybe 4-5 months, and then it will likely rebound with even higher prices. If you can find them now, for cheap, get them.

I'm glad I picked up an extra one from my FLGS when I could (shrink-wrapped, BTW)

maybe I'll need to take out extra insurance...

I happy I order it direct because i have never seen one in a store here in Michigan. I first I was upset that this line had been pulled, but now I'm ok with the line ended were it did. CZ:UW is a great start to a dungeon I can complete on my own. Every GM/CK/DM can make the Castle Zagyg/Greyhawk their own. It just seems to be a questionable business move pulling the plug on a product that could sold more copies. My greedy side is hoping that it is never reprinted and the value skyrockets to an outrageous level.

I wish I could say the same. I really want to see the rest of the levels. Yeah, I can create my own levels, but I really want to see the other levels that Gary had created and what was running around down there.

I know what you mean, sir. I could make the additional levels, too, but it would bug me knowing that they are not "official." I'm anal about that sometimes.

I say we tackle Jeff and shackle him until he finishes his mostly-unofficial, but definitely in the know, version.

Excellent suggestion. Who's got chains and a discrete basement we could use?

They're coming for me!

Seriously, the whole thing stinks, and none of it has gone down as Gary, the Trolls, and I had carefully and painstakingly arranged. I'll leave it at that. For now I would recommend three possible solutions:

1.) Make it up yourself. That's right, bust out the graph paper and pencils and start drawing.

2.) Use Joe Bloch's amazing Castle of the Mad Archmage: http://greyhawkgrognard.blogspot.com/

3.) Use Rob Kuntz's Original Castle materials that are in progress. Bottle City and The Living Room are direct from the original Greyhawk campaign. Rob was Gary's co-DM and created many of the original Greyhawk levels when Gary was too busy to regularly run their game. There is no doubt in my mind: Greyhawk = Gygax + Kuntz.

But thanks, guys, I appreciate the flattering sentiments.

Regards,

Jeff T.

Yeah, those Castle of the Archmage materials are saweeet! Well worth checking out and using, IMO.

We are still coming to get you, Jeff. You will be ours! MUHUAHAHAHA!!

Just kidding, you can sleep safely. Well, as far as I am concerned, I can't speak for the others.

I wish there was an option #3:

Run through Jeff's "generic dungeon levels."

Wish things were like they should have been, sir.

I still would like to see myself , in spite the above post

The introduction to CZ/UW by Gary makes it clear that there was at least 4 versions that where constantly being changed during play. But it really would been cool to see what Gary put down there. Almost as cool as getting to play Greyhawk with GG as the DM.

Oh, someone summoned a ghul. FWIW you did great work on the CZ project. Great suggestions too. I'm using #1 because couldn't wait. If the price isn't too high I might get some Rob's work. And Joe's made some cool maps with some nice encounters, and the price is real nice

True, true, about the versions. That's what I meant, about "official" - Gary's and Jeff's version. And gaming with Gary would be terribly awesome, that's for certain!

I really wish TLG would bother to shrinkwrap direct orders, as it is a hassle to deal with all the packaging paper shredding that invariably permeates the product.

On topic, good gosh I wish I had bought more than one of these!

Oh well.

Okay, at the expense of Peter killing me for bring this back up (well, techincally I didn't, Random did ), Steve said that ones that were "direct shipped" to customers were shrinkwrapped. Does anyone know the ratio of how many got direct shipped as opposed to going into the "channel?" I remember Steve saying a while back that so many were going directly, that TLG might not have many to go through distribution. My FLGS's lone copy (that I snagged) was not shrinkwrapped and he said he didn't open it/it didn't have shrikwrap on it. Maybe he bought it directly?

The one I bought direct was unwrapped, and the one I bought at my FLGS was wrapped.

Another thought too is that some FLGS actually shrink wrap product that isn't shrinkwrapped to keep them more mint on the shelf - they just do it themselves. One of the FLGS near me does/did this.

Anyone have a copy of CZ2 they can find for me or sell me for say $50 US? I so missed the boat!

Are there any plans on it ever being offered as an Electronic document?

I highly doubt it. Gary expressly forbid it ever being offered that way when he was alive.

If it were offered electronically, I wouldn't be suprised. I was going to type more but I think that part could be extrapolated.
