How we can let our on line friends know we are sick or dead.

Post by Treebore »

http://tech.yahoo.com/news/ap/20090314/ ... ath_online

This has become of unusual importance to me lately because an "on line friend" who has been posting over on ENWorld for years recently faked his being in a coma.

Despite his low and sick behaviour, it does bring home that we do have a lot of people on the internet who would like to know why we disappear. Fortunately DD had his wife to tell of his hospitalization. A couple of other board members recently disappeared, and we didn't know it was due to illness until they were healthy enough to come back and tell us.

I for one am covered. My wife and kids know of the message boards I visit. My kids have their own accounts on several of them. So if I get hospitalized or die you guys will know pretty quickly, probably within 24 hours.

Do the rest of you have something set up to let us know?

If I ever go more than a couple weeks without busting on Breakdaddy and McBain you know I'm dead (or they've abducted me.)

If I start posting on a regular basis, then you know that I've checked out and someone has hacked my account.

Interesting, conumdrum, Tree. I don't know what to say. I love my wife, but I don;t know if she'd ahve to immediate notion that she'd come on and let people and/or places know of my passing.

No problem. Heaven has Wi-Fi and 3G coverage. I intend to post on these forums forever.

I like the thumb drive idea from the article. It would cover a lot of bases in one shot...just make sure they find it (file it with the will). The good news is that most communities (like the RPG community) is pretty interconnected so posting in one place could cover quite a bit of virtual ground.

Well, nothing set up. But I'm sure the redolent pong of decaying Pete might give forth certain indications.

Breakdaddy would tell you guys. He would know I died since I left him all of my gaming stuff in my will. The fact that he gave me half of my gaming stuff is immaterial.

Tree, I've been thinking about this problem also. I plan on telling my wife to post something or send an email if anything ever happens.

I'd have to think about that one. If I suddenly disappeared, I figure someone might eventually post a 'whatever happened to moriarty' thread as I've seen for others who have disappeared.

However, leaving a list of usernames and passwords would certainly be handly in terms of setting other aspects of my affairs when I pass.

Certainly food for thought.

I thought about this awhile back. I would definately want the C&C boards, and Savage Worlds forum to know of my passing. hehe If I ever prepare my will, I'll have to look into that.

I have two long time friends that post from time to time over at Dragonsfoot, I'm sure they would post something there.

No, and I won't. It would not matter if I keeled over. In fact, there would probably be a party, and I can't have anyone having any fun at my expense.

Or they've duct taped (using your own, of course ) your hands to the chair.

I'd notice only during the summer. The prevailing winds out of Okieland would carry your pong north.
