Trying to rework my schedule for TrollCon

Post by tylermo »

I've been wanting to attend TrollCon for sometime, and James Ward is yet another big draw for me. Initially, I think it was tentatively scheduled for July 17-19, but got moved to 10-12th. Before that time, I booked a bar band gig on the 10th. As luck turns out Styx is playing St. Louis on the 11th, but I haven't bought tickets yet. I see Styx every year, so maybe I can find a date for Memphis or Nashville. Otherwise, I may have to make the 6-hour(one-way) drive to TrollCon on Sunday. It's a conspiracy. Stephen and company just had to tempt me further with the guest of honor announcement. Maybe I'll get those old Gamma World books signed afterall.

You must be there Tyler. There is no other excuse.

The bar band gig on Friday I can't get out of. That's 90 dollars for playing drums, bass, and singing. Not even real work, except for hauling all that crap 70 miles round trip. I'm going to Styx's website now to see if I can find another date in Memphis or Nashville, instead of St. Louis on that Saturday. I'll get back to you. I simply must be there at least on Sat and Sun.

Aaagghhh! So far, there are no dates listed for other venues in Nashville or Memphis. St. Louis is the closest. What to do, what to do. My only choice may be to make a 6 hour trip to Little Rock on Sunday, and then 6 hours back. Still have time to decide. Damn the conflicts of a rock n' role gamer.

Well, I guess you have a choice, going to the Styx or going to the sticks.

Good one Peter. I'm already pretty much in the sticks just north of Troll HQ in Southeast Missouri. The Arkansas accent is just a little thicker that's all. If Stephen and Richard could get Styx to perform at TrollCon then it would be Styx in the sticks!

That would be pretty cool to get you down here dadeo. Now with ECon canceled your not going to get to hack through Todd's world!

He has committed to Troll Con VII, Todd that is, and will be running a follow on to his old adventure Izarian's Paramour. Few people know it but Todd is the one who first playtested C&C in a public venue. He did it at E-con. This was the Beta version and it went over insanely well. One of the players...he used to post here...published an account of it on En world the boards went nuts after that.

So its cool to me that Todd is going to be here.

Which would make it even cooler if you were there as you Ty have played i most of his games at ECon!

Wow. He playtested at E-Con. I'm trying to remember correctly, but I think both of us first attended EC in 2003. I do remember playing with Todd that year, and some of the others including one at GenCon. But, weren't you guys also selling the C&C players guide at that con in 2003. Either way, I'm glad to have been in some early games. Kind of like my first(or maybe 2nd game) of Savage Worlds was at Archon with SW and Deadlands creator, Shane Hensley. Damn, Stephen you're really tempting me. I'll keep checking those Styx dates to see if other options are available. That would be the first tour I've missed since 1990, 96, 97, and 99-2009. Even if I do, I still can't make it Friday. I'll keep you posted. Be sure to keep me posted about Cape Girardeau Comic Con. I've got nothing better to do than help you guys in anyway possible(if you guys show up). Otherwise, I'll have to run some of those awful Savage Worlds games. hehehe And, don't forget, we could all drive down to Sikeston before you head back to Arkansas. We're talking home cookin' at Lambert's...HOME OF THE THROWED ROLLS! Can you say,"Hey, Grandpa! What's for supper?" I'm sure you get the reference, Troll Lord. Unless, you weren't raised on Hee-Haw. hehe

Todd's great. Oh, the joy of him almost throwing a drunk moron through a window at GenCon... damn, that was fun.

Yeah. Todd's the man. He and Stephen(and Aaron WIlliams of Nodwick/PS 238) fame are always treat at Egyptian Campaign in Illinois. That's off for this year, so I'm trying to add Troll Con to my existing list of cons. Even if I skip Styx this year, my wife(just now, and in recent days) says I'm not driving that far for another con. She'll have to come around to my way of thinking in July. She doesn't understand. It's Stephen, Todd, Davis, James M. W., P. Bradley, and the gang. Her response will probably be, "Who?". Or, "Tell me again. Who are these people?" She's not a gamer, or a comic reader(except for Buffy), but she does like sci-fi and comic movies, and related tv programs. So, she's alright in my book. If she ever sat down to play a game of C&C, Sav Worlds, or Axis and Allies, I'd fall out of my chair.

Dang that must have happened before I showed up that year Robert!

Haha Yeah Todd's funny. Of course I remember at my wedding he got a little, er.....tired. He woke up, stumbled about the room (this was the day of my wedding) and fell through plate glass window. I lept up and grabbed his shirt ... no easy task as I was, er tired too... and caught himself on the window!

Todd's a great big good old idiot!

Oh, no, you were there my friend. This happened the night of the ENnies award ceremony. But, I'm not forgetting you left me stranded at the airport, making me pay $40 to take a cab to the hotel... least I made you pay for dinner a couple times.
Somehow I have to find a way to go to a con with you again. Good memories, all.

Styx/TrollCon update. So far, due to buying PA equipment for a band, I have yet to order a Styx(conflicts with Saturday at T-Con) ticket for this year's tour. I'm even telling myself that it's okay to miss a year. It's looking more likely that I might opt in favor of TrollCon, provided I can swing it with all of these band expenses. Gas shouldn't be too bad, and entry fees are no problem. What's the hotel situation like in Little Rock? Better yet, is there a KOA in the immediate area? Long as I've got a shower, and a place to lay my head, I'm good. I've used the KOA many times in my gaming travels. 75.00 for three nights!

Yes I think there are a few KOA's just outside of Little Rock not sure of any inside Little Rock for sure. I've been using Couchsurfing now for some time for going to various Conventions outside of AR well I think this is the only gaming convention in AR for that matter I'm more of a Sci-Fi con goer.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably do a web search. The only problem with doing out of the city, is the drive. If it's too many miles out, then it can be a nightmare. Although, Little Rock should be easily navigated in the mornings compared to Chicago, Atlanta, etc. I'll go to KOA's site, and see what I can find. If all goes well, gas should be my biggest expense. 6(?) hour trip, I believe. KOA, food, and some dealer room goodies will hit me in the pocket as well. I can still do it on the cheap...sort of.
