Thinking...

Post by Rigon »

Well, with the cancelation of LGGC, I've been looking at some of the other Con dates and locations. It is looking like GenCon maybe my best bet (it's only about a 6-7 hour drive, but I want to attend a smallish Con), where as TrollCon is closer to 15 hours by car. Now I know I can fly in, but the Mrs and I were planning on using this little trip as the starting point for a small tour of the upper midwest for our vacation. I don't know how she'll feel about going out to Arkansas. I just wish the boys would come on up to Origins (Columbus is only 3-4 hours away). So right now I have to give it a look over, see what's around to look at, and pitch it to the wife. Who knows, maybe I'll make it, but I know I really want to go to a Con this year.

It goes without saying that we'd love to have you. If there's any information you need to help assist you in getting down for TC, please contact me.

Did you get the dates expanded for the rooms to include the 9th?

Thanks. I just need to know what major (and minor) sight-seeing attractions are in that part of the country. We were planning on going to Yellowstone or Mt. Rushmore from Lake Geneva after the Con, so I need to talk it over with her and see what there is to see.

So I told my wife about the cancelation of the LGGC and the "invite" to TrollCon and she seem interested in taking the trip. I just still need to check into it further, but it just may happen.

Rigon,

It rather depends on what kind of tourist sites you are after? Out door or historical landmarks or more tourist attractions?

I'll have to find out, as I plan on spending most of my time at the Con, I just something to occupy the Mrs while I'm away.

Well there is the Clinton Library. Its become a huge attraction. And it really doesn't matter your political persuasion. We'll get a list of local features, dining options and the like on the web page and these boards for all to see.

That would definiately help things out, but the more I think about it, the more I think I want to come down there. Just have to make it work.

Like the #1 attraction for tourists in Arkansas. The Tick Farm.

Its where they wrangle ticks for jewelry.

That's great. I was hoping to see the great hall of "acquaintances". Perhaps a lot of good manequin'd likenesses at that attraction. I always did like that gal from Hee-Haw.

Too bad. That would've made you a 50th degree black belt in wankjitsu

So, last night the Mrs. basically told me that she didn't want to go to the Con, but I could still go. So I'm gonna check into airline prices and such and see if I can do this weekend for a reasonable price. I may make it yet.

Well, after crunching some numbers and looking at other options, I strongly doubt that I'll be making it to Troll Con this year. I can't see spending close to a $1000 for a weekend trip (by myself), when I have improvements around the house that need to get done this summer. I am definately try to make GenCon (only because it is within driving distance and because the Trolls aren't coming to Origins).

It's a bit further drive, but there's always All-Con in Dallas.

March of next year... so that gives you almost a year to plan a save up.

Ok.. sorry. But I just have a bad habit of pimpin' All-Con.

Rigon,

Where are you coming from? SW has crazy ticket prices for sale these days.

But I do understand the financial choices!

I'd be coming from NW PA (up by Erie). I checked SW and it's looking like it would run me about $450 round trip, then throw in the lodging at 100 bucks a night (I'd stay 3 night) and that pushes my travel cost to $750. I like to eat and I'd want to buy some stuff, so we're talking around a grand for 3 days. Now, if the Mrs were also coming with me, I might still consider it (we'd probably drive- 15+ hours one way), but she's decided to not come, so I'll wait for a Con a little closer. GenCon is within driving distance (only 6 hours) and I'm figuring with room and board and fuel I can do this trip for around $500. That's closer to where I want to be. Now if you guys would just come to Origins it's only a 3 hour drive and I think I may have relatives in Columbus.

Damn, I can barely afford the $10 registration!

(Which is why I was glad to discover TLG based in Little Rock.)
