C&C pocket-sized edition

Post by slimykuotoan »

I noticed a few other gaming companies offer this. Any interest in this for C&C?

Mongoose is the big one that comes to mind. I actually have the pocket versions of Conan, Classic Traveller, Runequest, and 3.5e OGL from Mongoose. All very cool items for portability. It would be a nifty idea to look in to a pocket version of C&C that includes the PHB and M&T.

*chuckles* To make it practical though, it would have to be done in a very small font. And I know how people howl about how tiny the print is even when we do stuff even in gigantic font like 9 point.

Might have to sell a magnifying glass with the book to do it properly. ^_~`

Savage Worlds has also been doing their rules in a full-color digest size for nearly 2 years.

It would clearly have to be a sans serif tiny font, maybe century gothic or arial, somehitng clean.

certainly Quickstart rules in a smaller format might be fun. could maybe even be packaged w/ dice! sweet!

I only have six copies of the digest-sized Savage Worlds Explorer's Edition, so I'm not *ENTIRELY* familiar with that item
EDIT: As an aside, I just ordered the Solomon Kane Savage Worlds hardback.

I decided to go with the Mutants & Masterminds Pocket Players guide as I already owned the full rulebook, but it was in storage. I'm all for collecting multiple rulebooks (C&C copies take up some space on my book shelf), but the M&M Pocket edition was about $15.00 cheaper so I went with it and have been very happy with. Palladium did something similar with their Manga-Sized Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles book and subsequent releases. Which is pretty good as well. I also picked up a couple of copies of the Savage World's Explorer edition, as the cost was too good not to. If C&C did, I'm sure eventually I would, but I like the format that they have, the books are just right for gaming, the problem with the Pocket size, while good for quick reference, you can't lay open.

There are positives and negatives with the smaller books. Breakdaddy, I used to have at least 5 or so personal copies of SW Explorers Edition. But, I've purchased far more. Gave out all but two personal copies, and even more other copies. Even gave out a few C&C plyers books after one of the previous $10.00 sales.

SW Explorers Edition is a great value for the cash. A complete game in a 10 dollar book is a fantastic deal. I have given out 4 copies myself and still retain the others as table copies or to give out as needed.

As much as it pains me to agree with Breakdaddy on anything, I gotta say a pocket sized C&C would be wonderful (especially when I'm sneaking out of the house to go game, it's hard as hell to hide my full size books.)

I'd be on board with it. I agree with Breakdaddy, though - it'd be nice to have the PHB and M&T together in digest-sized.

The books in the white box set were pocket sized.

*chuckles* Sure, but trying to get 256 pages of information in a 5.5 x8.5 area, even at a reduced font, is going to make for one socking thick book.

Well, it wouldn't need to include the M&T. It wouldn't need to have as much art (though I enjoy it). But even if you cut some of the text out it would need more pages to encompass the PHB.

And that means a whole bunch of layout work.
I'll gladly setting for a full-sized softcover that encompasses both books but if a stripped down pocket edition came available, I'd pick it up.

I'd go for something like this, as long as the font size wasn't too large.

I assume that all of the artwork would be trimmed out to save space. (I think Mongoose does this.)

As another option, rules could be trimmed down to fit levels 1-10 or so, too, without messing up most campaigns. It would be a little more "old school" that way anyhow.

Oh sure. If I was to set up this kind of book I'd actually do 'art' in the borders and headers and remove most of the interior work all together. But it still takes up a lot of space. Doing just the PHB would be loads easier. And it makes more sense anyhow.

Here is what is on the docket for the moment. Small, pocket size character books. There will be one for either each class or each attribute. Each book will contain everything relevant for that class, including abilities, level exp, equipment etc As well as a multiple character sheets and pages for notes.

We are looking into the cover options.

At some point after the 3 and and 4th printings we'll release a pocket book for CKs and Players, one will contain both books, the other, just the one.

I'm only luke-warm on the idea.

Sure, I'll by 'em for the sake of having them but actual use and reading? No thanks. I've got a couple SW Explorer's Edition sitting on my shelf languishing in unuse, I pull out my revised Edition when I want to run a game of SW.

I've never fallen in with the Compact = Cool line of thought on things. It's not like I'm breaking my back carrying a PHB and M&T around. I'll take sharp looking hardback over digest any day.

Pocket size fits in the rucksack or planner. I'd carry separate PHB and M&T volumes, too.

As do I Joe. I would use these more as table reference for those who do not have a harbound or not have it with them. Additionally, I would use them as "recruiting paraphernalia" to the unlearned.

I like these ideas a lot. Better yet, I'd love to see a jazzed up White Box that incorporated all of the errata.
