Savage Worlds-Explorer's Edition

Post by GameOgre »

I am getting this game in the mail(along with some others) and have heard good things of it but have no knowldge of it at all.

I think it's a Gurps type game system but don't know for sure.

What is it like? What do you guys think of it?

Savage worlds is awesome x 3.

Simple, easy to use system that lets you play nice pulpy action in any genre you want. Works extremely well as a skirmish rules too if you want to go that way.

I've run western, sci-fi, Dragonlance and more using the system.

For less than $10 it's a steal.

Thanks DD! I am planning to run a Pulp/Rifts style game with it.

Oh, and once you get comfortable with the system it runs seamlessly with some high action. Pursuit rules are great and we've had amazing riding horseback battles that were exciting and an absolute blast to play.

Even the mass combat rules fade into the background with huge armies marching against eachother and it being handled easily and quickly. With the narrative aspects taking center stage keeping everyone engaged.

Can't talk enough good about the system.

I am so glad to hear that. I have been interested in the system for some time now, but have been unable to find a review of the system.

A creative GM can easily tweak the system in countless ways. It's very adaptable and fun to run. The flexibility of the system lets you mimic just about anything you want.

Savage Worlds sees some action over on MapTool if folks would like to observe a game sometime. I've had a copy of the rules sitting next to my toilet for over a year, but haven't had occasion to really dig in yet. There's something very attractive about how damn thin the rule book is.

Good deal, hopefully you'll get quite a bit of enjoyment out of the system.

I love it.

Mind you, I'm not "Mr. Gurps", but I did make characters(but never played) 2nd edition, and played a little 3rd and 4th edition. I'd have to say that Savage Worlds is much simpler. Not to say that Gurps was the most difficult game to learn of all RPG-dom. Dude, many have heard me say it here, and over at the Savage forums(peginc.com)...I like the simplicity of the system. Short of a few classic games, or certain settings like Shadowrun 2nd edition that capture a specific feel, I'll take the rules-lite system of Savage Worlds for almost anything these days. Matter of fact, SW, and Castles and Crusades(top notch game for my fantasy needs) are about the only two rpg's that I support, and play. Welcome to the Savage fold. If you're here, I assume you play C&C as well. Good man.
