Twilight 2013 update

Post by Breakdaddy »

For those of you that pre-ordered or are just interested in the progress of Twilight 2013 I was just informed that the books should be back from the printers by this Friday! NICE!

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Hey Tree/Breakdaddy

Are you guys going for the 2 rule books or the original pre-order package? I'm having a tough time deciding. An extra rulebook is always handy.

I did the pre order. That stuff sounds much handier for running groups.

Very true. It all sounds like great stuff. Realistically, I'm not sure what my chances are of running or playing a face-to-face game. I'm contemplating the 2 rulebooks so that I can give one to a friend, but all of those player aids would sure come in handy on the off chance that a group does fall into place.

It may take years, but if you keep trying, it will happen sooner or later. IF nothing else we will be playing on line.

Har!

I've been forced to listen to non-stop grumbling about that inane sparkle for the past couple days.

I changed my mind, I got the two books option. I realized that with a printer I can make my own laminated quickrules, equipment booklet, etc...

I can't make another HC full color book.

You know... I was actually half tempted at Twilight 2013. I still have my old box set (deluxe 2nd edition ruleset by GDW). Sadly I never got the chance to play or run much of it. Back then, AD&D still hogged the spotlight and when it wasn't that, it was often Shadowrun and a variety of other things.

Feeling nostalgic, I decided to check the site out. The initial pre-order special was a bit much for me but the current 25% off (in other words, the book is only $29.95) seemed a great deal.

Then I saw the shipping costs to Canada.

I really can't see paying $20 to ship the thing. To be fair, I could order more than one copy of the book and the shipping charges apparently do not change but that doesn't really help.

Considering they were offering the free shipping on the $55 pre-order special, for a $5 difference, I would've gotten a whole bunch more. But to ship one book, I'd accept a charge between $10 and $15 and I'd have it within 7 days -- not $20.

A shame...

If the shipping is free in the US have it shipped to me, and I'll ship it to you for actual cost, which I imagine will be less than $10.00. Just have it shipped to c/o me, with your name still on it.

That way I keep it packaged and just put on the new shipping label to send it to you. I don't know what kind of time frame your looking for, but since your not looking to run in or play a game ASAP, time doesn't really matter.

I opted for the two hardbacks immediately. Like Treebore said, we can make cheat sheets any time we want if we have a printer. The two hardback deal is really amazing. Having the PDF just makes it that much better.

Is this d20 based?

FWIW, I loved T2K for chargen, but T2K2 and 2.2 were more playable. My biggest complaint with T2K2 chargen was the explosion of skills with a compression of skill points. I couldn't recreate my own skillset like I could with T2K.

It's a propriatory system called the Reflex System, not d20. Folks who pre-ordered also got a PDF of the core rules. I haven't looked over the mechanics much though, as I'm not a fan of reading PDF's. I just basically read the timeline and decided to wait for the dead tree version to really dig into it.

Character generation is more like 2/2.2 than it is 1e, but I haven't read enough of the rules to get into specifics.

For the record, I sent an email to Keith this morning, requesting the 2 hc's instead of the pre-order pack. Tree made a really good point.

If they had made Twilight a D20 based system I wouldn't be interested. Nothing wrong with D20, obviously, but Twilight is not a good fit based on the feel of the game.

Thanks Tree... I'll give it some thought. I noticed shipping within the States was (a very reasonable) $5 which means I would might still come out ahead a couple of bucks but at that point, I may as well just order direct. What I might do is see if a friend or two might be interested in a copy... that way shipping can be split.

If I find only one person who'd like a book then shipping becomes immediately reasonable. Finding someone will likely be a challenge though since I doubt I'd start up a campaign anytime soon. Just too little time to play all these games.

Another thing I *might* do is bite the bullet and just go ahead and order 2 or 3 copies and the extra copies will end up being a nice birthday gift or something.

I'll have to dwell on it some more.

I can't really remember much of T2K and never went beyond T2K 2nd Edition. How close or how different is 2013 for those who have looked through it (PDF in this case since I know you're all waiting on the books).
