Well, I cut work early today. Upon reflection, I should have taken the whole day off but what can you do. It was a beautiful day here in Montreal so I decided to swing by one of my local game stores on my way home. To my pleasant surprise I picked up more than I thought I would.

I wandered to the back of the store where they were selling the second hand stuff... I was a bit amused with seeing a couple of 4th edition books and then I look down at a pile of box sets.

I grabbed the first one without hesitation -- It was a copy of the Gamma World box set (box set released in '83) and it was in great condition. The only thing missing from it were the dice.

When I had that box in my hands, I saw what was underneath and grabbed that too. It was the Deluxe Edition boxed set of the Rune Quest RPG put out by Avalon Hill. This would be Rune Quest's third edition and was also in excellent condition. All contents were there with the exception of dice (yet again). I've only played Rune Quest once but I had a lot of fun and I remember it being this edition of the game.

Poking around I also picked up two AD&D modules in stunning shape. One was the Conan module (CB1) entitled Unchained and the other was the Temple of Elemental Evil. The condition of ToEE is really nice. I haven't seen a copy of this module in this good of a condition in a long time. The only problem with the module was the map/illustration booklet is missing. This isn't an issue since I already own the module. Considering they were only asking $2 for it (that would be $1.64 US), it was a no-brainer.

Everything I picked up came up to $26 in Canadian funds which works out to about $21.30 USD.

Hey, next time you should give the old serl a call and see if there might be something he'd like you to pick up for him...
Congrats. Always a fun thing to get good deals.

Ditto! I wish I had an LGS where I could make the finds you have made.

That edition (2d Edition) of Gamma World is arguably the best version. It kept the game mechanics relatively simple compared to 3rd Edition, but added more of everything as well as made the mechanics more consistent.

Le Valet d'Coeur...

I've gotten a fair share of good finds there in the past year but the key is really persistence. Most of the stuff you'll see there are past d20 books though there is a good share of non-d20 stuff that winds up there too. I guess it depends what you're looking for. In my case, for each time I find something really worthwhile, there will be another 3 or 4 times where I come away from that section empty handed.

The best hauls are usually the result of someone clearing out large portions of their collection.

Nice finds moriarty
I haven't seen a ToEE for as low a price as you paid for the whole lot. RQ3

is my favorite version, I hate the boxed paper booklet format (Mine is in sad shape ). A Conan module for $1.64 that pretty sweet too.

That's how I eneded up with an almost perfect-contdition WoG box set (only the box was beaten up) for 50 cents -- Library fundraising booksales can be your friend, as the librarians aren't up on RPG valuation

I played 'Unchained' as a fighter named Manitou, back in the day; a great mod indeed.

Actually, the $1.64 US was for the ToEE module.
The breakdown (in Canadian funds) were as follows:

RuneQuest Deluxe (3rd Ed) - $16

Gamma World - $6

Conan - $4

ToEE - $2

It was a very good day all in all.

I wanted to give this a while to die down before I jumped in with a ME TOO!

It's not half as exciting of a score as Moriarty's, but this weekend I picked up a VG Manual of the Planes at Half Price Books. The cover was in great shape, and when I opened it up, I discovered it was autographed by Jeff Grubb!

It's probably one of my old copies, chief. I sign all of my DnD books with the author's name just for sh*ts and giggles.

You should have called me! I was able to get the day off myself and haven't been to Le Valet in a while. We could have emptied our wallets together or maybe fought over some of the stuff.

Once - not to long ago - I passed by at lunch hour and saw that they had over 5 boxes of stuff that some guy had dumped on them for cash. The majority of it was 1st ed stuff and lots of boxed sets. I don't know how people can part with so much so easily. Well... their garbage is our find I suppose!
