Dark Chateau

Post by Tadhg »

Yayyyyy, our group finally got together yesterday after a way too long hiatus for summer to begin DC! Hehe, I loved the simple ambush right at the beginning of the mod. The PCs realizing that they can't walk in the front door start conversing amongst themselves about what to do.

I give them a little time, but they are a bit rusty and lazy - sorry too late, thwack, thwack & thwack! Three orc arrows hit their mark on three PCs. Yep, no to hit rolls, as the orcs were lying in wait and having time to aim and fire. Hehe, immediate damage to start the action!
Evil CK: hey everyone, welcome back to C&C gaming at it's finest. Well the orcs continued to fire arrows and 6 goblin spearman jumped out to engage the PCs in melee. Great combat action.

I've got one new player - my nephew's cousin. He created a half-orc barbarian to add some muscle to the adventuring party.

A bit later after the PCs defeated the gobs and orcs, they continued around the side of the mansion and again begin to take too long to decide what to do next, boom 3 giant weasels attack! Hehe, gotta love it.

The group eventually made it inside the chateau via the side garden entrance and took on the 10 giant centipedes who were very tough to kill, but they ultimately prevailed. The found the first aid kit and used that, druid goodberries, paladin healing hands, and the cleric's healing spell to get the whole group back to about 1/2 HPs - hahaha.
Great day/night of gaming! We then had a marathon session of movie watching - Fantastic Voyage, Jason & the Argonauts and Aliens!!!

I'm tired today!

*smirks* Were I the half orc character I'd have sought out the leader of the Orcs, challenged him, and took over the tribe.

That would have been very cool indeed. The orc leader had some nice stats and a wicked simitar! 8)

No rolls to hit? If I ever get in a fighting mood can I go post this somewhere and claim I'm the DM/CK?

Sounds like a lot of fun! I got D. Chateau at GenCon but i haven't read it yet.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Heh, yeah. I've only done this once before and it was a similar situation. The PCs are standing around, making noise, argueing/discussing strategy in an area that's unfamiliar to them. I count rounds and then finally, sorry, but the orcs are aiming and the PCs are not sounding off with their actions and thus are sitting ducks - yep, no roll required here!
[I suppose this is CK training for my new/young players, but I think they're finally going to get "it"]

I pretty much do the same thing. I just do rolls that I pretend to pay attention to. In reality the hits are for the same reasons you said.

As I understand it, everything associated to Castle Zagyg is owned by Trigee, which became Gygax Games. So, yes.

Stupid question time. This got pulled along with all the stuff Gary wrote, correct? Is the entire Castle Zagyg line is controlled by his estate, even the stuff he didn't write?

Yes.

Any questions relating to CZ or any of Gary's products need to be directed to Gygax Games.

TLG has naught to do with any of it any more and has no information as to the status of any future releases.

FWIW, I believe Trigee is still Trigee and has not changed. It is now doing business as Gygax Games.

Ah, a subtle distinction, but an important one. I think you are right Buttmonkey.
