Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Interesting... I wonder how long before the start hosting other PDFs (for a nominal and probably monthly charge).

I hope the quality is better than the majority of pdfs being sold before, of old TSR products.
Since the only thing there are couple of 4th ed stuff, The PDF quality is pretty much perfect. If they do end up doing something with the old TSR stuff themselves, I don't expect much improvement. I imagine it would be hard to justify putting time, effort, and money into improving and re-doing the scans.

Yeah, the PDF quality of these freebies is pretty darn good.

I take it back, I really am not passing judgment until I play a good long game of 4th ed.
I figure it can't be a totally lost cause, industry luminaries designed it an all. and what's that Elvis album called, 50,000 elvis fans can't be wrong?

My only suggestion would be to enjoy it for what it is, not for what you want it to be.
I like that!
That sounds wise. You could say that for so many things in life.

I don't remember - did 3e/3.5e do something like this? Offer free introductory rules and module? I'm trying to recall, but I cannot.
This is kind of scary to me, to be honest. I hope this isn't indicative of D&D being in trouble, as I think it would be very bad for the industry if something were to happen to D&D. Hopefully it's just good, ol' fashioned generosity and a "Welcome to D&D" type of thing. If it's the latter, then it's a thoughtful gesture.

For 2nd Edition they did the "quick play" modules too as introductory deals. Had to buy them but they were printed. I'm fairly certain they had downloadable versions of them on their site back then too. I remember going to them and getting additional info on the module setting and I'm fairlt certain the minotaur mage one was available.

They have a ton of earlier edition stuff up as a free PDFs and have released a few of the classic gygaxian modules upgraded to 3.5 as free PDFs in the past.
I wouldn't worry.

Yes, a bunch of free 3E modules, all of which I DLed, but they don't appear to still be available. Th4ey probably are, but I didn't create a bookmark to the page, like I have for Maps a Week, PC portraits, and the old 1E/2E modules they offer for free.

There was a "quick tour" of 3e on their website, with an interactive game, but not quite like this. They did, however, have the SRD available which was more than enough to play the game.
Agreed. This is a pretty big deal. I've talked to my FLGS and they thought it was a rather interesting move, too.

Yeah, I think I remember those. And yeah, they weren't free. They were pretty neat little modules.

Yeah, but it's not really the same thing, IMHO. Having free modules from an edition or two ago is a little different than having a "relatively new" module that is currently retailing. I hope this move brings more people into the 4e fold, as I'm sure their intention is to up the 4e playerbase.
So yeah, I worry a little.
Even though I dislike the system, I don't want to see it fail for two main reasons:
1) I think it will be bad for the industry as a whole if the biggest RPG ever tumbles, and
2) I still hold out hope that 5e will be something I want to spend my money on.

Huh...never knew that was even available. I don't go to the wizards board very much. I actually try to avoid it if at all possible. Thanks for the link.
Was this all they did?

Yes, I knew about all these (which is what I was referencing in an earlier post). I was actually wondering if they did any other "updated to 3.5" modules.

Interesting.
Return to the Temple of the Frog...for d20 Modern. That's odd.
These are nice. I'll have to DL these before they go away for good.
