Wizards of the Coast let's you try out 4e D&D free!

Post by DaveyB »

Not sure how to take this or if one should read anything into it, but Wizards is offering it's quickstart rules and the full module "Keep on the Shadowfell" for free on their site here. Not sure how long this is going on, but if anyone wanted to try out 4e D&D for free from levels 1-3, there ya' go.

Some of us already know. I posted this in TLG's "Other Games" forum.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Hey, at least Wizards is offering something free. Unfortunatlely it's not old D&D stuff, but it's a start.

I am sure this decision went over quite well with people who paid full price for Keep on the Shadowfell.

For free? Not enough. I would try 4e only if they did pay me for it. And my fees would be high for such a tedious task...

Quick Start? Its 27 pages long! After reading a few pages I realised how fortunate we are that C&C exists.

The ONLY reason I can still find them is because I bookmarked them. You will not find them through their current board system.

Edit: let me rephrase that, I wasn't able to find them via their current board system.

Amen brother. I actually bought it when it was originally released. After about 5 minutes of reading through, I was wondering what was "Quick Start" about them. And yeah, I'm certainly glad for CnC!

Well, if we're judging by page count alone, C&C and most other quick starts break the 20 page mark as well.

Thats what I was thinking. If this PDF is like the one in the Starter boxed set, the full page count is not just about rules, it has basic DMing advice too. Maybe even some pre gens.

Hell, I'll browse through it now...

Page 16 onward is pre gens. So the rules, which includes lists of some skills, feats, and powerz, only takes up 15 pages.

I think the layout is different than the print product. I remember the "quick start" booklet was actually pretty small, and I di remember being impressed. But up opening the main module booklet, there was more pages of rules. Didn't count the actual pages, though. I'd guess around 20 or so actual rules. So just like CnC, I reckon.

I'm one of those who had to waste money to find out I didn't like it.

Jesus. I remember you Maliki from ENWord back when there wasn't any 4e. We lost a good company of people with the edition change, this time around. I'm Odhanan there.

As for the Quick Start stuff here, yeah. Not nearly "quick start" enough for me too.

Whoopee. Y'all are welcome to drink from my toilet for free, as well. But I should warn you, I had tacos tonight.
