I've only played with it for a few minutes, but it seems pretty easy and neat!

If you have specific constructive criticism that will make the Hexographer better, please post or email me. A stand-alone version is in the works, for example.

Absolutely. It will be only Java, so it should be cross-platform. I use a Mac at home, a PC at work and one of the guys who has been testing the Hexographer the most and giving a slew of ideas/feature requests (Chgowiz) is on primarily Linux.

Hehe. But then we're at a standstill, because I can't allow my wife to kiss another guy!

I tried it out, and yeah, it's nice. I might have to be using this for some campaign maps! Love that style (and have since the days of the Mentzer Expert set).

Looks good, do you have a larger version elsewhere that is readable? I saved this one to my comp and when I enlarged the image it blurred too much to be readable.

Havent settled on a scale but thinking something between 20 and 50 miles per hex. maybe will try to post a Jpeg file see if that helps.

This is the NW quarter of my home brew world. one hex = 50 miles

The nation of note is the Freeholds heir to the shattered remains of the ancient empire of of Bael Turath, long since destroyed in the last war against the Dragonborn empire of Arkhosia. The region is lawless, truly a points of light region. Here adventurers will find scattered ruins from the old empire, savage bands of goblins and orcs and a thousand ways to die.

The largest point of light is the City of Freehold. The city is ruled by the just and fair Jarl of the raging sea Krombek the Mighty, Chosen of Kord and slayer of Bralg the hobgoblin Tyrant. Freehold has the air of a free wheeling anything goes frontier town about it and was only settled a few generations ago by the Hralgarn clans of Strongardt who were forced to flee after having lost a crown war.

Freehold is a open city where Tiefling treasure hunters might rub shoulders with Eladrin merchants and many bands are formed to recover the wealth still said to be laying within the old ruins of Bael Turath.

The next largest settlement in the region is the dwarf hold of Deepsilver. Here one will find the hard working and industrious dwarfs busy at their craft. Many merchants brave the wilderlands to deliver Stromgardtian steel to the ever hungry forges of the dwarf weapon smiths. A fine dwarf sword crafted of pure Stromgardt steel is worth a mans weight in gold and it is said those that come off the dwarf forges are tested by cleaving through the anvil the sword was worked upon. These blades are identified by the strange swirled gray patterning of the steel.

Blazestone is a treacherous land of sulfurous plumes and flowing lava said to reflect the hellishness of the of Bael Turath heart and to have been the heartland of the empire and home of the imperial capital, now lost. Once green and fair, now blasted and burned, here some brave or disparate souls hope to strike it rich by prospecting the lava flows for gemstones and precious metals. few ever find wealth and fewer still survive the demons and beasts said to inhabit this region.

The southwestern part of the Blazestone has become the scene of a near constant battle between the legions of Murder hills and the Knights of the searing sun who ride forth from the the castle of dawn and battle to keep the old imperial road open to pilgrims who wish to journey to the Sea of Dust and pay homage at the Holy Cathedral of Pelor, the Eternal light. Legends say that when Bael Turath fell to the devouring flame those who had kept faith in Pelor and had not accepted the state religion of Asmodeus were protected from destruction. These men and women build the holy cathedral here as a reminder of Pelors grace and the peoples debt.

The Sea of Dust keeps silent testament to the remains of the western provinces of Bael Turath. Here was once the bread basket of a nation now windswept and desolate. Many foul beasts roam the desert night in search of flesh and many bands of bandits, outcasts, madmen, and desert nomads claim the few oasis that scatter the dusty lands. Here a man might be murdered for nothing more than the water in his wineskin, hear the voice of a god or find unimagined wealth in the sand choked ruins of the past.

The silent hills are called so for the fact that there are no echoes to be heard here. The forest of Sharpteeth are said to be home to a large number of werewolves and other foul and corrupt creatures while Murder hills are claimed by the hobgoblin legions of Mugul Kursh, called the man flayer, heir of Bralg the Tyrant who rules from a fortress hidden in a twisted canyon at the foot of Mount Zerberash.

The barrier mountains, granite, and the thunderheads are said to be home to tribes of giants, goblinoids and their ilk but none who have sought to investigate the regions have returned. What is known is that bands of giants raid the low lands from time to time and sightings of giant Roc are not uncommon.

Where the barrier mountains meet the Skycutter mountains one may find the lost hold of Hammerfall. Once a cross roads of the Deep Highway and now over run by foul creatures from the deeps. Those few adventurers who have returned speak of piles of wealth left scattered about the halls, goblins, kobolds, and orcs battling one another for control of the upper halls while drow and other dark beings war for control of the lower halls.

To the north beyond seal island you have the Frostfell, a trackless tundra of ice and blowing snow where the weather is as deadly as the bugbear tribes that battle the native goliath barbarians for dominion of the glacial barrens.

The humans of the region are generally derived of the northron stock that spread out from the Stromgardt isles. Tall and fair complected as a rule with eyes ranging from brown and hazel to piercing icy gray and hair ranging from raven black to snow white. The chief gods of the north are called the Stramjarrvik. Ruled by patron of the north Taranis and including Kord as the patron of warriors and the temple of the three fates which revere Avandra, Ioun and the Raven queen who are depicted as the maiden, mother, and the crone of the northmen and sometimes as consort wife and advisor of Teranis. Merchants and sea raiders pay homage and make sacrifices to Melora the sea goddess and her sister Loviator the mistress of pain. The shrines of Pelor are also to be found in most settlements. While the trade language is common the people of this region often use Stromgspech amongst themselves while scholars, mages, and priests often study Turathian.

While men of northron stock are most common, trade and intermingling with men of the south means that it is not unknown to find men in the freeholds of any appearance and the freeholds can boast at having the largest population of half elves to be found in the realms.
