What do you want to see next?

Post by Greg Ellis »

Just out of curiosity - what do you want to see next from the Trolls?

For me - it's more tiny boxed sets, like Towers of Adventure, that can drop into pretty much any campaign, and anywhere.

How about the rest of you?

Besides what is already on the docket (PHB4, G&M, CKG, etc), I'd really like to see:

C&C Basic

Aihrde

Haunted Highlands

I'd cast my vote for the PHB4 or the G&M.

After the CKG and Gods & Monsters, I think C&C basic would be next on my list expanded info on Aihrde and Inzae and more monster books.

Once the new M&T, PHB, and Gods & Monsters are out, I would like to see more Haunted Highlands goodness!

More 'toolkit' resources like Engineering Dungeons or Towers of Adventure. I'm not a big fan of published adventures or campaign settings - I like to make my own adventures set in my own world. I am, however, a busy husband, father, and palaeontologist and anything that can help speed up my adventure planning is greatly appreciated.

Please excuse my ignorance. I've been working with C&C for a little over a year now, but I still don't get so many requests for a basic C&C set. These requests are being made by people I know understand how to play.

What do you want in such a set and how would you use it since you are perfectly capable of explaining the game to new comers?

I have to second many of these sentiments. It's not so much that I'm not a fan of published adventures and the like, as I often use them for inspiration. The further I've gotten into my homebrew setting, however, the more I've embraced the old TSR mantra, "Products of your imagination."

I'd like more in the way of ED, ToA as well. I'm also looking forward to other installments of the Castellan's Guide to... series.

Steve's talked about a C&C basic set aimed at and written for a younger crowd. In other words, for parents to use to include their children.

Part of the C&C basic set, also includes the idea of race classes. Its a project that's been in the planning stages for a fair while, but has been moved around due to other priorities.

Part nostalgia (I started with the Red Box) and a desire to see a modern rendition of such a thing.

Mainly though for my son. He's already plays AD&D, BECMI, C&C and even 4e with us but I'd like to give him a nice little box set of C&C goodness of his own.

I believe the intended audience age for C&C Basic is 7-12, or thereabout. Reduced options (races as classes) and a more generic universal set of subsystems (perhaps all weapons deal 1d6, or vary by category: light = 1d4; medium = 1d6; heavy = 1d8?) so, the rules are very well recognized by those who currently play C&C, but altered significantly to reflect those whom are "expected" to use them... and which do not currently exist. Also, as I recall, it should have much more in tune with "how to play" and less "stuff" in general. Sort of like Holmes basic with a dash of Mentzerian goodness?

But, beyond that, I would like to see more people subscribing to Crusader so it can continue to grow and become the magazine it should be (it is getting there, for sure.)

Product-wise, I should finish up SG2: Engineering Cities. Have some of my own projects to finish and release under Atomic Clock Enterprises (tm). Through TLG, I would like to have Monsters and Treasure II and Casey's book on war -- have an idea for using it.

Oh, and I doubt it'll end up going this way but I'd love to see C&C Basic and C&C go the route of different product lines much like D&D and AD&D did back in the day.

Taken as a whole, BECMI was anything but basic or dumbed down. It had just as many nuances as AD&D just done differently. I'd love to see the same thing here.

What the guys above said. I would love to see race-classes for the game. Moreso, I would like to introduce my son to the game as well. I really feel like i want to do something simple, and am leaning towards D&D Basic (Mentzer) for introducing my son to RPGS. It's easy, I don't want to inundate him with a lot of rules options, and he would love a "box set" to call his own. I can simplify the rules of the game, but if I give him a PHB, it might confuse him. Plus, I'd rather not give him a run-down Bed D&D box as a present.

Race as classes, and with a well planned out and closely examining the Basic rules, you can make a great "clean" game. I think the Siege Mechanic is beautiful for this sort of thing. Plus, look at the greatness of C&C White Box... lots of goodness there.

Can I safely assume that all you folks wanting C&C Basic have kids? I don't have kids and so have no interest in C&C Basic. Everything else the Trolls have mentioned are of interest with the CKG and Gods & Monsters, followed by Monster books at the top. Want to see Serleran's Engineering Cities too.

I do not have children. But my quest for the perfect game will always continue. For me, C&C was the closest. I think C&C Basic can be better. More free.
