Is Castle Whiterock any good?

Well, it's certainly a big box. Otherwise, kind of disappointing as it seems to be very, very railroady. Though I have not run the adventure. Overall, it just seems to be a very bland, albeit bitg, dungeon crawl.

Can you give me an example of a discounted price?

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Nobleknight has it for around 50 bucks. Troll and Toad has it for 65. Amazon has it for 75 and you can get it used through the Amazon Marketplace in the 60s.

I own it, but have not used it. I think it would be a fun mega-dungeon.

It has a "story", several stories in fact, for you to use or discard. I haven't ran it as is, but since Aufstrag looks to be another year or three off, and I need it NOW, Castle Whiterock is now the insides of a super gargantuan Treant and is called Aufstrag in my current home game.

Is it worth 50 to 60 dollars? I would say a resounding "YES!!" because its big, its well mapped out, has numerous encounters that I think are cool and/or interesting. In fact, if I wouldn't feel so guilty for doing it with us having such a tight budget, I would go to Noble Knight and buy me another copy.

Have it. Looked at it. Set it back on the shelf. Not sure I have a use for it.

Hmmm. Maybe in a week or two I will be able to see how much "use" I can offer you for it.

I think the set is well worth it at the price they are asking for.

Though it's easy to think of it as a mega-dungeon crawl, I think it is in part a tribute or at the very least a nod towards a certain infamous castle that will never see the light of day in a way that a bunch of us can appreciate.

All one has to do is to take a look at the colors of the covers of the books contained within the set to get an idea what I'm talking about.

I think combining elements of the Upper Works and the lower levels of the Castle Whiterock boxset. There would be work involved of course but I think it would be well worth it. Beyond that, I'd say explore the HoMP box set when you reach the 'end' of Whiterock.

To be clear, I'm not a big fan of the mega-dungeon but I do appreciate various layered pieces contained in this set.

I always shied away from it, but not for any good reason other than price. If it looks like something you will want to use/get good use out of it, then the price does sound worth it to me. As far as mega dungeons go, I'm thinking of headting the CZ/Castle of the Mad Archmage route, myself.

Good luck with CW, Dagger, if you go that route!

Off topic but I'm stoked...

I'm fixing to play in a 1st Edition game using yggsburgh/CZ:UW.

Friggin awesome. I never get to play.

It's a very worthy mega-dungeon. Plenty of stuff to do for many, many game sessions. If you run it as a DM/CK with a brain, it can be the source of some great gaming. Well worth the original price, in my opinion (I bought it at the time).
